always wondered about this etching in the tiles....

Pacific Noce tile pre-positioned for tomorrow's work...

These tiles were installed in the kitchen. They remodeled the kitchen but keto the tiles for the parlor bathroom. They were expensive so I am glad they reused them.

Tile shower walls, tile shower floor, Holcam Eurolite EL-20 frameless hinged shower door and under floor radiant electric heat provided and installed by Gerald with Tramco Kitchen and Bath of Davenport, WA.

After the Northridge Quake, my parents' house sustained enough damage that they decided to use it as an occasion to remodel the entire house. We had some original Batchelder tile and I checked with my mom to be sure that was going to be saved. She said the contractors told her it couldn't. I told her to try another contractor.

It was hard to convince her that it was worth saving. I had a museum catalog of an Arts & Crafts Movement exhibit. Luckily the catalog had a photo of a lamp that had exactly the motif our tile (not the ones depicted here) had and credited it to Batchelder. Finally, seeing it in print somewhere convinced her of what I'd been trying to say all along - it was important to save!

Standing firmer with the contractors, the mantlepiece and the deco tiles from the entryway were saved. We don't have the fanciest Batchelder tiles I've seen in person. That goes to the Mayan fireplace I saw in a family friend's home. But even such "plain" tiles as these are worth saving. You won't find stuff like this in Home Depot, that's for sure!

I bought this tile las year off a street artist in São Paulo. He gets a blank tile and using only spray cans and his fingers turns that into a beautiful landscape.

Sadly, during the house move, I have dropped it and broke it into many pieces but managed to glue it back and therefore you can easily spot the cracks.

A tiled part of the Barbican inbetween the Conservatory and Shakespeare Tower.

I hope these awesome Mid-Century Modern tiles won't be sledgehammered to be replaced by some cheap concrete or ugly facing. My fingers are crossed.
