Here are some photos of my Midi Imperial Starfighters, including modifications to set 75347. Free instructions for all of these are on Rebrickable.

This little group started with the modified TIE Bomber. I added surface detail to this ship as well as a more interesting bomb loading and dropping mechanism and space for the gonk droid in the pilot-side of the hull. The TIE Fighter and Vader's TIE Advanced are built to match the proportions and scale of the Bomber, using the same cockpit style. They can be built invididually but my intention was that they're a modification of the Bomber set, with only £10 of extra parts needed in addition to 75347.

Star Wars Identities: The Exhibition is an exhibition that serves as an interactive experience mainly exploring the characters of Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker. The characters are then scrutinized by three major themes: their origins, the influences that shape them, and the choices they made during their lives. This also touches on characters such as R2-D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, and how their individual relations and roles affected Luke and Anakin.
||
The exhibition also explores the factors that shapes an individual, such as genetics, familial and social influences, using the Star Wars universe as background examples. The visitor is invited to create an original Star Wars character based on themselves, temporarily stored to a smart technology bracelet or keycard, by interacting with 10 stations throughout the exhibit. For example, by the first station where the character's race (based on a selection of 15 Star Wars races) and gender is chosen, genetics is explored as an influence.

This series of MOCs is all about achieving maximum detail and faithfulness at microscale size.
It is heavily inspired by the gorgeous "midi-scale" Millennium Falcon (set 75375) and in fact it matches its scale (about 1:125 or trophy-scale) so that they can be displayed together!

Interesting side note: I can see why LEGO didn't use hinges for the wings. The white male hinges are stronger than the grey ones (white for bottom wings, grey for top), but excessive swooshing will cause the wings to go haywire.
A first for me, a friend of mine asked me to make something Lego Star Wars-y for his son's birthday. In addition, though, his other son needed a counterpart gift. Mulling it over, I settled on the most iconic opponents I could think of: Luke (in his X-Wing) versus Darth Vader (in his TIE Advanced). Scaling down the sizes to compensate for kids smaller than me (the TIE Advanced is pretty much the set version, though), and here are the results. Side note: Allowed me to get rid of some older colors, too :P

Like the X-Wing, lightsaber components were stashed somewhere in the ship (somewhat late in the process, I might add). In this case, the best spot was behind Vader.

Trying to capture my new Lego TIE Advanced and the reflection, I ended up taking a self portrait.

(The following is a fictional history...of course.)
The limitations of the standard TIE/LN starfighter--its short range and lack of shields--led Sienar Fleet Systems to begin working on a larger, more robust version. The only commonality between the two was its paired laser cannon, twin ion engine propulsion, and powerplant. It retained the TIE's solar panels, but extended and bent them for better efficiency, as well as making it harder to hit from the side. Most importantly, it had a hyperdrive, extending its range and making it more or less autonomous, a more durable frame, and shields. The TIE Advanced could take a deal of pounding, and if it was not as maneuverable or fast as the standard TIE, it made up for it with a better chance of survival.
Since Darth Vader was primarily responsible for its design and production, it was only natural that the first TIE Advanced X1 prototype went to him. Vader liked its handling, even if the targeting system needed constant tweaking, and used it to deadly effect during the Battle of Yavin, scoring five kills before being damaged by one of his own wingmen, though it ironically saved Vader's life. Vader would continue to fly the TIE Advanced on occasion afterwards, but despite his endorsement, only a few were produced by the Empire afterwards, due to its cost (and the fears that its hyperdrive might give Imperial pilots the temptation to defect to the Rebel Alliance with it). It did serve as the basis for the TIE Bomber and TIE Interceptor.
(Back in the real world...)
MPC released a TIE Advanced (then billed as just "Darth Vader's TIE Fighter") not long after the X-Wing, though the two were not in scale (the TIE is roughly 1/35 scale). After the X-Wing, Dad had low expectations, but he was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the kit--one of the few decent offers by MPC in the Star Wars line. It looks nice and has held up well over the years.

A (prepainted to a high standard) miniature from the X-Wing miniatures game from Fantasy Flight Games.
The shot isn't technically perfect, I used the kit lens with macro converter in order to have a wide angle macro - for a more dramatic effect in the pose of the miniature. The minimum focusing range of that combo didn't let me focus quite what I wanted, but nearly so. And f/22 gave me a genuinely huge depth of field, but also introduced a lot of diffraction.
Shot with RC flash from the left, and a reflector from the right.
The background is a Hotz Mat felt gaming mat, speckled with stars, and actually what these miniatures are on during play.
