The 24 albums I'd take to a desert island. I certainly hope someone else brings Billie, Miles, and Coltrane; The Pixies, Portishead, Bowie, and PJ Harvey...
Flashback, ELO -- I first heard them on the little AM radio I got for Christmas when I was 6 or 7. Unlike some of my classmates I did not see Xanadu for Olivia Newton-John, but for ELO...
1969, Velvet Underground -- Introduced to them by a boyfriend when I was 15.
Platinum Collection, Blondie -- my Dad and I saw Debbie Harry perform with The Jazz
Passengers; she wore a smart peplum suit with Wayfarers and furry Abominal Snowman boots. My Dad and I kept looking at each other "That's DEBBIE HARRY!!"
Darkness on the Edge of Town -- So hard to decide which Springsteen record. My Dad gave me this when it came out -- I was 9. I hope I can be that right on with Perla.
Miss America by Mary Margaret O'Hara -- Go buy this record now.
Bewitched, Luna -- always ends up in my car...
Summerteeth, Wilco -- I didn't like this when I first heard it. I don't know what I was thinking.
Achtung Baby, U2 -- another favourite for the car.
Weld, Neil Young
For the Beauty of Winona, Daniel Lanois -- my brother played this for me when he was visiting; I bought it the day he returned home.
Collision Course, Asleep at the Wheel -- enjoyed many nights when my parents had friends over and I was supposed to be asleep; I would sit on the floor by my bedroom door and listen to the music coming up the stairs from the living room.
Boatman's Call, Nick Cave -- the last concert I saw in San Francisco before moving to Tucson.
Cafe Bleu, Style Council
Frank's Wild Years, Tom Waits
The Essential Leonard Cohen -- I read Beautiful Losers at 14 and it blew my mind. Love, love, love Leonard.

I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for that special offer
A guaranteed personality
I almost thought this shot wasn't going to happen. People kept trying to come down the aisle, and I didn't want to be an ass and stop them. Karna helped take it, since I didn't have a tripod or my remote with me at the time. The shot was a little blurry, but I was just happy I finally got a shot, so I don't really care about that.

The Clash were an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk. Along with punk, their music incorporated elements of reggae, dub, funk, ska and rockabilly. For most of their recording career the Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, lead vocals), Paul Simonon (bass guitar, vocals) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums, percussion). The Clash achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom with the release of their self-titled debut album, The Clash, in 1977. Their third album, London Calling, released in the UK in December 1979, earned them popularity in the United States when it was released there the following month. It was declared the best album of the 1980s a decade later by Rolling Stone. In 1982 they reached new heights of success with the release of Combat Rock, which spawned the US top 10 hit Rock the Casbah, helping the album to achieve a 2× Platinum certification there. Their final album, Cut the Crap, was released in 1985. The group disbanded in early 1986.

...and so now I'd like to say people can change anything they want to and that means everything in the world. People are running about following their little tracks, I am one of them! But we all gotta stop just following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything, this is something I'm beginning to learn. People are out there doing bad things to each other, it's because they're being dehumanised. It's time to take the humanity back into the centre of the ring and follow that for a time. GREED IT AIN'T GOING ANYWHERE! They should have that in a big billboard across Times Square. Without people you're nothing...That's my spiel.

When it comes to shopping I’m no match for the two lovely women I live with.
I have my moments though.
On our visit to New York, this summer, one of those moments occurred. While walking through Greenwich Village we found this T-shirt shop. The owner claimed that he sold more than 3.000 different shirts and I had no trouble believing him. I saw a lot of beautiful shirts, got really excited, and I could have easily bought a dozen. I chose three shirts for myself (holding back a little, as usual), bought one as a present for my brother and one as a present for my daughter.
These were the shirts I bought:
1. A classic, black, Ramones T-shirt, I had really tried hard to find at festivals, shops and the web.
2. A brown Beatles shirt with a beautiful photo of the young and cocky fab-four, titled (very sexy) “The Beatles, Live at the BBC”!
3. Every day we took the D-train from Harlem, going downtown. On the third shirt a big D was printed and the text beneath it said: “From Bronx to
Brooklyn” (How poetic is THAT??!!)
4. The fourth shirt said: “The Dude abides”, referring to the Coen-brothers film “The Big Lebowsky”, and had a print on it which showed Jeff Bridges as “The Dude” (good present for my Bro).
5. My daughter was fiddling with a classic t-shirt. It featured the Velvet Underground sleeve with Banana, designed by Andy Warhol. I couldn’t stand when she said she wouldn’t buy it, because it was too expensive, I just had to buy it for her! Passing on some of my T-shirt-Love to her…

It started with a big black "X"- which is just to the left, out of crop here. Over the space of a couple of years, all my teenage PR friends would add to this masterpiece. Lots of forgotten bands and catchphrases from the time.
I ended up having to paint over it in about '84 to sell the house. I wanted to leave it but the realtor insisted.
