The 2nd half was a complete turn around from the first. Whatever Bath had in their half time cup of tea seemed to work as they ran out 27-21 winners thanks to two late tries

Last Saturday I took my father-in-law to Twickenham to see the match between Bath and Leicester Rugby Union, dubbed "The Clash". This is the half time view. At this stage of the match Leicester were leading 15-10.

Twickenham Stadium (usually known as Twickenham or Twickers) is a rugby union stadium in Twickenham, south west London, England. Owned by the governing body of rugby union in England, the Rugby Football Union (the RFU), the stadium hosts home test matches for the England national rugby union team. Other rugby union games played at the stadium include the Middlesex Sevens, selected Aviva Premiership fixtures, selected Anglo-Welsh Cup matches, the Varsity Match between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and selected European Rugby Champions Cup matches. The RFU headquarters are based in the stadium.

Twickenham has also hosted concerts by Rihanna, Iron Maiden, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Genesis, U2, Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones, The Police, Eagles, R.E.M. and Lady Gaga, rugby league's Challenge Cup Final and conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses, and hosts American football as part of the NFL International Series from 2016.

It is the second largest stadium in the UK, after Wembley Stadium, and the fourth largest in Europe.

The Clash - photograph by the brilliant Pennie Smith

Taken at the New York Palladium, september 21st, 1979. "I remember thinking something was wrong, realising Paul was going to crack - and waited. The shot is out of focus because I ducked - he was closer than it looks" Pennie Smith.

Of course! Why didn't I think of wearing something like this to the match? I think this chap was part of a zoo animal themed stag party

If I go, there will be trouble

And if I stay it will be double

So come on and let me know

Should I stay or should I go?...

I know, I'm stretching my luck...

thing is, I've lost my mojo and need to get away...

Guess my race is run

She's the best girl that I ever had

I fought the law and the law won

Tribute to the Clash (or not?)

Perhaps a tribute to Joe Strummer and the Clash?

Hommage à Joe Strummer (1952-2002), le chanteur leader des Clash puis des Mescaleros.

Les Clash, auteurs du légendaire "London is burning", 1er titre de l'album éponyme.

Jef Aérosol : London's burning with boredom now. London's burning, dial 9999.

En français : Londres est en train de brûler d'ennui, Londres est en train de brûler. Composez le 9999.

# Description? below the "london calling" lyrics. hmmm? the music? why? because they're the clash! 8^}

# "London calling to the imitation zone

Forget it, brother, you can go it alone

London calling to the zombies of death

Quit holding out and draw another breath

London calling and I don't want to shout

But when we were talking I saw you nodding out

London calling, see we ain't got no high

Except for that one with the yellowy eye

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in

Engines stop running, the wheat is growin' thin

A nuclear era, but I have no fear

'Cause London is drowning, and I, I live by the river" ~ the clash [1979, strummer-jones] -- single b-side: "armagideon time"

# video clip: 35 seconds

# music: london calling by the clash

# shot in s. central texas by mr. trona

# the voice memos feature on this iphone just ended a brief, inglorious career, randomly spitting forth klingon, i believe, and what appears to be a norse proto-language. right. start again.

# i shot this after a severe thunderstorm spent 2-3 hours passing through our area [veering off to the SE] -- as the rain stopped, i quickly moved some cams out of their safe positions to shoot activity, still at a heightened level, with the storm now throwing horizontal discharges on a regular basis -- i got the timing down ... at the beginning of the clip, what looks like hesitation is actually me counting -- here, after a series of close [very close -- i felt currents moving through my body], conventional shots, i tried the new approach of moving towards the discharge with the camera, sort of catching it in reverse -- it's a unique sequence -- in slow motion, i can see "spiral discharge" shooting horizontally in two directions out of a vertical bolt firing up along or behind a tree trunk -- i found an excerpt in an early twentieth century scientific text describing something similar -- that's the ipad commercial that absolutely should be made (for the worst of reasons) but never will, quoth... (yes, for the 'right' ones..... ;)

# thank you for stopping by -- skäl!

# i perhaps should have used something in the 'blunt force minor threat tempo' range, but heard the clash instead

One of our first stops whilst visiting London.

When The Clash’s third album ‘London Calling’ was released in the winter of 1979 it was clear that the band had made an instant classic, an era-defining masterpiece which still stands as one of rock’s all-time greatest albums.

‘London Calling’ was and is a hugely compelling melting pot of musical styles, driven by a passion for action and a fierce political anger, with music and lyrics which remain as relevant today as they were on release. As well as showcasing influences and context for the writing and recording of the seminal double album, this new exclusive exhibit at the Museum of London will also examine how the capital influenced The Clash as they became the most popular British band of the 20th century.

Paul Simonon’s broken Fender Precision Bass is one of a 150 pieces of the bands personal personal archive including notes, clothing, images and music, many previously unseen. The bass was damaged on stage at The Palladium in New York City on 20th September 1979, as Simonon smashed it on the floor in an act of spontaneous and complete frustration. There is no doubt that these opening scenes would not have normally been seen at the Rec in Bath. I have a feeling that this first event of this type for the club will be deemed a success and Bath will want to do this again.
