We are warriors of love
And we have made deals with God
Down through the generations
Too many to be told and at great loss
Our precious treasure
Can never be bartered or be sold
From Acre to Malta
We protected the Cross
Now we still live amongst you
Wolves in sheep’s clothing
Protecting your resurrection
No matter what the cost
Come the day when you need us
When there is no chance in hell
Call us in your desperation
Help to ease the sweat on your brow
We will stand with you
To take that last journey
Racing towards heaven
And the end of all of your days
Well, it had to happen. Mix my love of the Grail with my other obsessions, the Templar's being one of them, and the beautiful setting of Glynde Place, seen from Glynde Churchyard, in Sussex, UK, and the result is this work.

The walled fortress was built in 1294 by the Templar Knights on what was an old Arab fortress. It was built on a small peninsula on the seafront simply earthed by a small isthmus of sand, next to the walls that made this rock an impregnable fortress.

The lake is in the parkland surrounding Ribston Hall near Knaresborough.
The Ribston estate was owned by the Knights Templar in the C13. The lands were confiscated by Henry VIII and acquired by Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk,
The Park has C17 origins, pleasure grounds probably of the late C18 with C19 additions, and a kitchen garden of the C18
This lake was passed on a walk from Wetherby to Ripon
The village of Temple was once the headquarters of the Knights Templar in Scotland from whom it takes its name, previously being known as Balantrodoch. The land was granted to the Templars by king David I in 1153 and held by them until the order was supressed in 1312.
The ruins of the old parish church date from the early 14th century.

"The construction of the preserved church was begun in a Late Romanesque style about 1130. Built over a long period, Gothic modifications and extensions were carried out until its consecration by Pope Innocent IV on 20 April 1251. From 16 October 1311, Pope Clement V convened the Council of Vienne, where the clergy resolved upon the dissolution of the Knights Templar. The facade was added in the 16th century, with the capstone ceremony held in 1529.
"The present-day building is a basilica, with three aisles and an apse, but no ambulatory or transepts, 315 feet in length, 118 feet wide and 89 feet in height. The most striking portion is the west front, which rises majestically from a terrace overhanging the Rhône. " Source Wikipedia 2023-10-12

The Templars Church - Late afternoon on the Hook Peninsula at Templetown. The Templar's church received its name from the Knights Templar and dates from 1310.
The castle of Castillejo de Robledo and its lands were property of the Order of the Temple until it was suppressed by Pope Clement V in 1311, when it passed to the Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem and then to the villagers with the confiscation of their lands. In the town there was a Muslim fortification on which the current castle was built in the 12th century . The remains of the Muslim wall can be seen in the lower part and are characterised by their greater thickness than the walls built by the Order of the Temple

This is from inside the British Museum the walkway between the buildings. It reminds me of the walkway in Indiana Jones and the last crusade. It also looks nice in black and white with silver toning.

Templars Tunnel built by the Knights Templar to link their citadel with the old port these tunnels really are wonderfully engineered.

In the mid twelve century the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon; or Knights Templar, have constructed an Outpost in an area of the the Outremer notorious for bandit attacks on Christian pilgrims and travellers of other faiths.
An entry for the Middle Eastern Setting category in the Summer Joust. I wanted to do something a little different from my previous medieval Middle Eastern style builds so I went for a European style castle with a Middle Eastern twist. The tower design borrows some techniques from this build.
