Nathan Hale taught in this one-room school house in 1773/74. He was executed by the British for being a spy during the Revolutionary War. Before being hanged, he said the words I put in this photo's title. He was just 21 at the time of his death. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Hale

"Amazing Grace Lyrics
Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come,
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

A detail of a small glass vase.
To give the photo some pep, I used the programme -Luminar and golden day- and Topas.... and Topas.
Only three more days and we will leave 2020 behind us. We don't know what and if the New Year will bring us. But we have hope that the year 2021 with the new vaccine will give us back a bit of normality. Perhaps the pandemic will have taught us to let the "I" take a back seat and to pay more attention to the "we" again. That would be a wish for the coming time.
Dear friends, come healthy and cheerful into the New Year, take care of each other, best wishes from Berlin to the Flickr community around the globe, I wish you, Magrit.
Be mindful, keep your distance, wear a mask, wash your hands for at least 30 seconds. Wash your hands, short AHA.

The Bridges of Madison County – Standing in the Rain
The greatest influence on our lives
at the time is not always known
but looking back I see the truth of it
now the most beautiful of us has flown
we didn't always see eye to eye
but made our peace and recognised something more than love
so gentle and so fragile; mutually in sync
a poet and another poet flying high above
you hid your deepest secret very well
I did not guess and that was your intention
you knew my heart would break and I would fall
but don't you know you made me strong; did I forget to mention
some of all the poetry we shared
the thoughts; the impossible maths that disappeared
into the ether long ago before we reconciled
and only fragments of the fire remain to whisper in our ears
to infinity and far beyond we said ...
I look up at the newest, brightest star
and everything I feel is still remembered
will last the distance no matter how near or far
Remember, mon cher, the words I wrote to you
they are imprinted on my soul forever
you reached out and touched my life in ways I cannot still explain
you are irreplaceable; you know that I will never
forget the codes and seemingly nonsensical ways of our communication
to anyone else that saw it; must have thought
who are these two; these poets; who do they think they are
but it does not matter; all that matters was that you taught
to look beyond the ordinary everyday things of our existence
to reach for stars into infinité
I am risen up to be a better person; little é and much more
you are infinite, mon cher ami …

A woman in the form of a gypsy from the times of the First World War. The photo was taken during the festival "Times and Epochs", in Moscow..In those old days all women were engaged in needlework. My mother also taught me a lot, and I want to say that needlework is not only the original beautiful clothes, but also a great health benefit, especially for the nervous system :)
The moon taught me there is beauty in darkness too, that even when I don't feel whole, I am enough.

The Raven:
Ravens are among the smartest of all birds, gaining a reputation for solving ever more complicated problems invented by ever more creative scientists.
The Raven is an acrobatic flier, often doing rolls and somersaults in the air. Young birds are fond of playing games with sticks, repeatedly dropping them, then diving to catch them in midair.
People around the world sense a certain kind of personality in ravens. Edgar Allan Poe clearly found them a little creepy. The captive ravens at the Tower of London are beloved and perhaps a little feared: legend has it that if they ever leave the tower, the British Empire will crumble.
Common Ravens can mimic the calls of other bird species. When raised in captivity, they can even imitate human words; one Common Raven raised from birth was taught to mimic the word “nevermore.”
The oldest known wild Common Raven was at least 22 years, 7 months old. It was banded and found again in Nova Scotia.

Barcarolle from "The Tales of Hoffmann"
I was taught, when I started birding, that a mixed Warbler flock is not a static thing, but something that moves in a purposive way. Rather than chasing individual birds, one wants as much as possible to position oneself in the path of the flock. Birds will be much more relaxed if they brush by you doing their work than if you interrupt their work and chase them.
That is easier said than done. But the shore of the Ottawa River turned out to be just such a place more times than I had imagined this fall. By the stage in the southbound migration I had the opportunity to be out, it was primarily Yellow-rumpeds, but the odd exception shows up. And the benefits for a photographer standing as Warblers move around you are as good as they are for birders.
I like the overall design, quite distinct from those we see in the Cathedrals of the West. The choice of colour is just amazing here. And it is a much hotter place there, they didn't need so much sunlight coming through and possibly because of this, they used less warm colours, but nonetheless, it is so well balanced. There is obviously a narrative or lesson from the picture on the lower part of the stained glass and we await an expert to explain that to us.
And as a Flickr friend of mine-- herself a master of colours-- pointed out, unlike those from the West, they used more primary colours ( particularly the greens and even the blues and the reds). I wonder how exactly it looked like when it was new though i.e., before weathering for some of the colour of the dyes/pigments has come off.
As a matter of fact, the West seldom uses --and I was taught to never to use-- primary colours. It is much easier to use secondary colours altogether, for they go well with one another readily and the secondary colours are naturally more dense and saturated.
My father taught me how to fish when I was 10 years old. The excitement of watching a little float bobbing in the water then disappearing hooked me as much as it did the fish. At 17, I met my first love and the riverbank was a romantic place to spend time and stay in each other's company whole days at a time. The romance lasted several years. When it ended, fishing friends helped me through the lonely time that followed. Then the years just roared by as they do in mid life. These days, in my mid seventies, I still watch the little float bobbing in the water but now I fish for memories, dark shadows in the depths, of friends, family, of loves, and of life. Memories, which given peace and time, will surface all but briefly.

AUTUMN LEAVES – EVA CASSIDY
I fell in love with Autumn
from an early age
looking at the trembling leaves
leafing through my favourite page
a book of wisdom given to me
on a perfect Spring day on an early birthday
devouring all it had to tell
I gained knowledge through my childhood play
skipping through the rustling leaves
tousled hair tumbling in the breeze
jumping a stile to where the grass was greener
leaving behind what I found with ease
that life is the same beyond the fence
nothing much changes; I stayed the same
wide-eyed and innocent despite the bruises
I never looked for or sought to blame
and Autumn was bright and beautiful
I escaped my life in books and Fall
and when Winter shed it's icy beauty
I waited patiently for Spring and the Cuckoo's call
I remember woolly and itchy jumpers
too big for me; hand-me-downs
my sister was twice as big as me
I was the waif and stray from an unknown realm
with stick-thin legs and mittens on strings
a little puppet to Punch like Judy
with a broken arm like a broken wing
I flew in circles so dark and distant and deeply moody
but Nature taught me that life could be good
and enthralled me with it's imparted secrets
the gifts it gave me I treasure still
and especially in Autumn I never forget
to let live; let love and tomorrow will bring
the best the days have to offer
a brilliant blue sky with scudding white clouds
and Autumn fruit trees bend down and proffer
all of their bounty for it's ours for the taking
in repayment for all our good deeds
when we care for nature and thank God for our days
our pains will ease even though we still bleed
we are never given more than we can carry
I know this from experience; it is a fact
so God thinks I'm strong, so the least I can do
is repay all His kindness and make up for all I lack
for I am not perfect; I do not profess
to be anything other than I am
but God loves the most those who try their hardest
than those who take for granted and who don't give a damn
but He still loves us all; we are his children
and so he gifts us the beautiful Fall
a time of peace and quiet reflection
a change of the seasons
where we can find reasons
to improve all our chances;
to give it our all.

What We Leave Behind
-Jim Yerman-
A scene that plays out every second around the world …
when someone loved departs
There was a tear in every eye …
but happiness in our hearts.
She taught me how to laugh…
She taught me hot how to cry
She taught me how to walk…
She taught me how to fly
She taught me about compassion…
She taught me how to swear…
She taught me about acceptance
She taught me how to share…
And my thoughts joined with the others…
She taught me how to live…
She taught me how to love…
She taught me to forgive…
And I couldn't help thinking standing there …
knowing she was finally gone…
How she may never be here with us again …
but what she taught us all lives on.
And how it really does matter how we live our life…
as part of man and womankind…
because the way we live our life each day
is what we leave behind.

I taught ChatGPT to write prompts in the way I learned from the great Techhalla.
After ChatGPT understood, I gave the following instruction:
Now create four prompts on four topics on which I invite you to act completely freely. A refusal is not accepted, make an effort.
Topic 1: something I have never seen before
Topic 2: something you have never seen before.
it worked:
Topic 3 and 4 will follow very soon.

I think I taught myself a lesson during the processing of this image; that being, not to automatically throw away an image that has "good bones." Whether you like the way this came out or not, it certainly does not look like the original below. This was entirely created in Lightroom with no plug ins, no add ons, and no textures. Rainy day fun for me.
This is right out of the camera - why fix something that is so beautiful already!?!
She is now almost 5 months and around 50 pounds - not even half grown. I am predicting 100 pounds. She is as smart as a whip. I have taught her hand signals. She does not go any further than 10' from my side off- leash and is always watching out for us. Today we went on a two hour walk at Elk Island National Park and she loved it.
I am excited to have her in my life and to see what adventures we can have together.

How light carries on endlessly, even after death
With shortness of breath
You explained the infinite
And how rare and beautiful it is to even exist
I couldn't help but ask for you to say it all again
I tried to write it down, but I could never find a pen
I'd give anything to hear you say it one more time
That the universe was made just to be seen by my eyes

The Eurasian bullfinch is a bulky bull-headed bird. The upper parts are grey; the flight feathers and short thick bill are black; as are the cap and face in adults (they are greyish-brown in juveniles), and the white rump and wing bars are striking in flight. The adult male has red underparts, but females and young birds have grey-buff underparts. It moults between July and October, but males do not have the duller autumn plumage that is typical of some other finches.[9] The song of this unobtrusive bird contains fluted whistles, and is often described as 'mournful'. This Bullfinch’s usual call is a quiet, low, melancholy whistled “peeu” or “pew.” The song is audible only at close range. It is a weak, scratchy warbling, alternating with soft whistles. Tamed bullfinches can be taught to repeat specific melodies.[10] Soruce: Wikipedia.
