A Singapore Airlines plane almost successfully hiding behind the building, except its tail giving it away. A slight mirage effect happening on the right, from the exhaust of another plane.

Been awhile since I posted an image of this massive mountain.

A compressed shot looking NW as the morning light hit this highest peak on the continent.

This impressive mountain was known to the Athabaskan and many other native tribes as Denali (“The High/Tall One”) and to the Russians as Bolshaya Gora (“Great Mountain”). An easy one to name...

"Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190 m) above sea level. With a topographic prominence of 20,156 feet (6,144 m) and a topographic isolation of 4,629 miles (7,450 km), Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak on Earth, after Mount Everest and Aconcagua." Happy Friday!

This great old Bureau County barn is holding up pretty well considering the farm around has been pretty well gone for a long time...

This vertical composition taken with the long lens allows you to really get a sense of what it is like being up against sand dunes that reach 750 feet in the air from their base.

Hard work going up ... but damn good fun coming down ;)

Tall Ships berthed in Aberdeen Harbour at Regent Quay as part of the Tall Ships Race 2025

The Kajama's white masts billow in the wind as its sharp prow cleaves the waters of Lake Ontario. The three-masted, gaff-rigged 164-foot schooner casts the same striking silhouette as it did 85 years ago during its first incarnation as a trade ship that sailed from Spain to Norway. Today, It is a Toronto harbour Cruise ship.

According to Siri, these are Coastal Redwood trees. I am certainly not sure but they are my favourite trees on that Huntingdon Castle Right of Way walk. They are tall, majestic and lean toward each other. Every time I go for that walk, I stop and admire.

The Tall Sundew (Drosera auriculata) is a carnivorous plant found in eastern Australia and New Zealand. It is a common plant of heathy dry forests, often growing in hard stony ground that is nutrient poor. As can be seen in the image, the leaves of the plant are covered with glandular hairs (trichomes) that secrete mucilage, a sticky substance rich in polysaccharides. This natural trap attracts and immobilizes unwary insects. Once trapped, the prey is slowly digested by the enzymes released from the trichomes. This fascinating adaptation allows the plant to survive in nutrient deficient soils.

Sometimes you really have to get close to appreciate geologic formations. Taken from the base of the cliffs known as the Trapps which are part of the Shawngunk Ridge.

Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.

Happy monochrome Monday!

As we were on our way out of the park we spotted a lone Black-bellied Whistling Duck next to a small pond. I then noticed some movement underneath her and then these little heads popped out.It looked like she had 4 chicks with her.

Tall tufa columns shortly after sunrise.

Tufa columns are a calcium carbonate rock (limestone) created when fresh water springs rise up from the floor of a saline lake such as Mono Lake. When the lake’s water levels dropped through water diversions to Los Angeles, the tops of the tufa columns emerged.
