This is the third piece for the exhibition. It is called ' ghost dance'. Before the conflict at Wounded Knee, the native americans made shirts that they believed could stop them from being killed by the white man.

I’m making new jewellery. This one is called synergy. It features agate cubes (heat-treated), hematite, red Jasper, snowflake obsidian, black onyx, denim lapis, copper, and ruby garnet. The blending of these stones will help to bring you into synergy. Namaste.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. ~ Maya Angelou

This is the second piece for Synergy. It is called 'Du Chaillu'. It was inspired by a character in a fantasy novel. She was a medicine woman of her tribe.

Made from raupo stems interconnected by a network of flax threads, using nature’s universal construction system known as tensegrity. None of the stems touch, they are held under compression by tension from the threads. This means the system is in total dynamic balance and stress is distributed equally throughout the system making the sculpture flexible. Photographed in the shallows of Lake Wanaka in the calm at sunset to create a reflection.

Synergy is the functioning of two or more things together to produce a result not independently obtainable.

In this case, the two things working together are a beautiful Shell Beach cove with surging waves and a most talented local photogapher, Lila Limited, giving me a pose for this image.

How wonderful nature is, with the concept of synergy between the eco-system. While the critter is after the Honey in the flowers, the Flowers use the butterfly as a vehicle for pollination, and thus ensures its own survival. A win-win situation for both.

Similarly must we aim to create synergies with our own eco-system that is happy to provide for us. Rather than just take away from the environment, a little effort to also give back something to it, to ensure its continuous survival, is not just a way of saying gratitude, but may also be our duty.

Nope, it's not an illusion or a hologram - it's Synergy, Monster High-style!!

I gave her face a custom faceup and blushing. I made her fashion in the style of the original Hasbro doll's fashion, but with the look and feel of the cartoon Synergy's "atomic" jumpsuit!

A throwback to some color from the past fall. I had a great time shooting planing the trip I had no idea about what to expect. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the location. This mighty waterfall was fun to shoot. The weather was great. And everything was in order for some photo fun. In street photography, finding colour synergy is like striking gold. It's a thrilling chase for moments where vibrant hues unexpectedly align, turning mundane scenes into visual feasts. I love finding these spontaneous, colourful encounters that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, capturing the pulsating heart of street life.

I was the only visitor at the gallery, no one to photograph except the art on the wall.

"Marianna Uutinen (b. 1961) achieves a consummate synergy between the materiality and spatiality of her paintings. Her art articulates space both through its presence as an autonomous physical subject and as something that straddles somewhere between subjecthood and objecthood – as if her paintings were spaces through which everything travels. The three-dimensional forms protruding from her glitter-acrylic paintings are subtly embedded in the composition. The lively, shimmering surfaces are like stardust, sometimes recalling body parts or three-dimensional shapes that emerge as the viewer interacts with the painting’s materiality. Uutinen has no interest in romanticizing nature; instead, her paintings exist as an alternative natural presence, alive like an extension of the natural world, their materiality obeying its own organic laws. Her paintings have a meditative, erotic, and phantasmagorical quality while also invoking a sense of aesthetic pleasure, hope, escapism, and spirituality. They speak, too, of loneliness – the works in this exhibition were created during the lockdown, during a period of physical isolation – yet they equally convey a sense of intimacy and a free flow of ideas.

Uutinen’s paintings continually reveal new sides of themselves, reveling in their nascent modes of spatiality. They are like performative spaces with a nonlinear presence that simultaneously expresses ephemerality and a reconstituted reality. Their performative nature is underscored by the viewer’s corporeal relationship with each piece. Their colors shift and change depending on the lighting and the angle from which the painting is viewed. The viewers thus project their presence and position upon the work.

Uutinen is one of Finland’s most acclaimed contemporary artists. She has held numerous exhibitions throughout Finland and Europe, and she represented Finland at the 1997 Venice Biennale. Her work is found in many prestigious Finnish collections, including the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki Art Museum HAM, and numerous international collections such as Stockholm’s Moderna Museet, Denmark’s Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and Buffalo’s Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The artist is currently based in Helsinki and Berlin.

The exhibition is dedicated to Marianna Uutinen’s mother."
