The structure of Birmingham's new library provides endless opportunity for a photographer. The sun was shining today, and looking up through the facade it feels like a different landscape. Slightly different from my landscape stuff, but brings me as much joy.

This lone exposed tree at Maywood has been battered by the elements but is still standing. One can say the same about American democracy at the present. Let us nurture it and help it survive.

"Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,

Visions of shadows that shine.

Til one day I returned and found they were the

Victims of the vines of changes."

But this is not so poetic in Bohemia. At the secondary technical school, we were screaming like baboons. We were terribly drunk. We drank 7 beers and then went back to school. And that song bolstered us! Graduation!

What the flowers convey:

Red:”I love you”

Nothing says “I love you” like red roses. Red symbolises love, beauty, courage, respect, romantic love, and even congratulations.

They speak the language of love and romance! A bright red rose means a love life that is fulfilled, while a burgundy rose implies a one-sided romance that has yet to be accepted.

Red is also the colour of blood, which again, epitomises the pinnacle human existence and core.

So, whether you are going with a single, long-stemmed rose, rose petals or a fresh flower bouquet made of brightest and freshest of roses, these are the perfect way to tell your loved ones that you are in love with them!

Have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

Symbolic of the old west, a working corral stands near the abrupt geological fault called the San Rafael Reef, which is the eastern of the San Rafael Swell, a dome 75 by 40 miles that rose 4000 feet between 60 and 40 million years ago. While erosion has reduced the relief of the Swell, it is still a stunning feature.

This is a stack of two shots to get both the corral and rock formations in focus.

I often find myself drawn to forest trails - always wanting to see what's around the bend. This scene is a bit symbolic too as it speaks to me of where we currently are - things are a bit fuzzy and we're not quite sure what's around the corner, but there is light and focus ahead as well.

Throughout many cultures, the symbolic meaning of owl deals with:

•intelligence

•brilliance

•perspective

•intuition

•quick-wit

•independence

•wisdom

•protection

•mystery

•power

In this photo, I have tried to capture these aspects.

Spring time usually represents an awakening time, for all senses, in all senses.

(Partially inspired at a post by Franzisko Hauser, possibly in communion of tastes and present mood).

With this still life, I have tried to visually represent the female genitalia, oh well, very symbolically but there' s more...

My concept on the Cherry.

It's years I now & then make some attempts to do erotic art without using any esplicit nude body parts, sometimes with just the hands, others with my letterings, sometimes with some of my drawings (so far unpublished).

It's an effort, a training, an exploring modality, a journey into discoveries.

Well, to me, this photo can be one example on how to visually evoke the female genitalia.

Once one dear friend, speaking about the fruits which can be perceived as erotic, asserted: "The sexiest fruit ever is the Strawberry!" I answered him: "Not at all, it's the Cherry in fact".

And he: "Naaaaa, it's not possible to eat a whole cherry like a strawberry because, in the end, you will find the kernel and you will need to spit it out, not a nice visual".

I replied him: "By all means it must be the Cherry because, after you have chewed its flesh & drunk its juices, you finally discover the hardcore and, if the cherry tastes delicious, you will suck the core all your life".

Symbolic form and function

In his 1984 winning bid for the creation of the Canadian Museum of Civilization (now renamed the Canadian Museum of History) Canadian Architect Douglas Cardinal stated the following:

“The museum will be a symbolic form. It will speak of the emergence of this continent, its forms sculptured by the winds, the rivers, the glaciers. It will speak of the emergence of man from the melting glaciers; of man and woman living in harmony with the forces of nature and evolving with them. It will show the way in which man first learned to cope with the environment, then mastered it and shaped it to the needs of his own goals and aspirations. It will depict man as a creature of the earth who knows his tremendous power to change his environment, yet understands that he must live in harmony with it... The building itself should truly aspire to be an artifact of our time, a celebration of man's evolution and achievement. It should point optimistically to the future, promising man's continued growth to a higher form of life, exploring not just this continent or planet but outer space as well. It should endeavour to be a spiritual act, and should demand from all those contributing to its design and construction the very best of their endeavours.”

His vision convinced the selection committee that he was the right architect for the job, “of all the submissions, his seemed to achieve the best balance between the relationship of the museum to the land, and the relationship of humans to that environment.”

The Museum subsequently opened in 1989 and quickly became Canada’s most visited museum.

My submission for 52frames Week 23: Negative Space

In case you are wondering, there is no logic to this picture. I photographed the rusted iron wire & the giloy leaves individually, & then together. The latter looked more interesting to my eyes & hence I chose this as my submission.

Symbolic of my desire for simpler times. Yea I yearn for a time void of loss, chaos, devision, and pandemic. And as 2020 comes to a close, it's seemingly nothing more than a precursor to 2021 rather than the year to forget. Echos of new norms and a new administration is little more than fuel on an already hot embers. And the wind blows on making containment problematic. Countries abroad must wonder what the hell is going on in the US. Have we gone mad? Is common sense as common as we commoners once thought?

Don Khong is the main island in the South Mekong river region know as the 4000 islands, one of the most scenic areas in Laos. The interior of Don Khong is almost entirely given over to rice cultivation. The major pastime on Don Khong is cycling around the countryside. Both in the early morning and late afternoon, this is an excellent way to pass a few hours, though it's best to avoid the middle of the day when the heat is oppressive. There are a few small villages scattered around the island's edge along with some interesting little temples and pleasant riverside scenery, but overall the main attraction here is the gentle pace of life. The floodplains of the Mekong River provide the country's only lowlands and its major wet-rice fields. Laos has a centrally planned economy based primarily on agriculture (including rice, sweet potatoes, sugarcane, cassava, and opium poppies) and international aid. Women hold dual responsibility for farm at home. In rice farming women in Laos have a substantial role. Traditionally, men plough, make bunds and prepare seedbeds, and women do more than half of the transplanting of rice, weeding, harvesting, threshing and post-harvest operations. In some areas the traditional task division has changed due to lack of male labour. Women are increasingly involved in land preparation, irrigation and preparing bunds and seedbeds.

I think the best way to explore Laos is by bicycle or feet. Meeting friendly Lao people in the small villages, like here on the Mekong island Don Khong, along the way and enjoying its countryside. I had to stop many times to make a photo. A beautiful scenery of paddy fields and it's gentle pace of life.

symbolic sculpture

Halfway between the Cathedral and Gambetta Square, we find one of the symbolic sculpture of Amiens, the Dewailly clock. It was originally located in the Gambetta Square until it was pretty much destroyed during the war and the clock disappeared. It was donated in 1896 by the former mayor-Mayor Dr. Dewailly and designed by architect Emile Ricquier. There's a figure of a woman with bare breasts which is the work of Albert Roze. With this work he wanted to make an allegory to spring.

Symbolic spiral staircase abstraction.

My husband and I recently hiked to another outcrop on Wilburn Ridge (Grayson Highlands State Park, Virginia) for a very memorable sunset. As the elements (light, fog, and clouds) were in a constant state of change, I found it both exciting and challenging to photograph. At the same time, I was listening to a very respectful group of Boy Scouts conduct their worship service behind me. A few days later, I learned of my father's passing. (One of his favorite songs was the old gospel song "Beyond the Sunset" that was played at his funeral.) As I now view this image, I feel an even greater connection to this memorable sunset and to the image's personal symbolism to me.

We don't want to leave Flickr, but if the new changes will become effective this might force us to do so.

Bison, symbolic animals of the Great Plains, are often mistakenly called buffaloes. By any name, they are formidable beasts and the heaviest land animals in North America.

Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the U.S. where bison have continuously lived since prehistoric times. What makes Yellowstone’s bison so special is that they’re the pure descendants (free of cattle genes) of early bison that roamed our country’s grasslands. As of July 2015, Yellowstone’s bison population was estimated at 4,900 -- making it the largest bison population on public lands.

Bison stand some 5 to 6.5 feet tall at the shoulder, and can tip the scales at over a ton. Despite their massive size, bison are quick on their feet. When the need arises they can run at speeds up to 40 miles an hour. They sport curved, sharp horns that may grow to be two feet long.

My Photoblog- My Third Eye...!

These pictures from 2024 were taken on one of my best days. As well as the outline of a Large Blue Eye with a distinct blue spherical both iris and pupil there is a shadow at the left centre which casts very interesting even symbolic shades. The Witches' Stone just at the edge of the village of Spott is a good memorial of bad times and deeds. The Witches’ Stone always fills me with commemoration and remembrance of times not so long gone when Witch Hunts were after witches so upsettingly so that we still use the term Witch Hunt no more than ever for a falsely fuelled over active hunt often with vicious entanglements and outcomes.

The Witches’ Stone is on the East of Spott village and Easter Broomhouse Standing Stone is at the West of the village. In the village at the Church you can find The Jougs. From standing stone in the East past central stone church to a commemorative stone in the West there are three superb historic lithic sites. The Church has been a focal site to inspire and to contain history of the area and along with local archives there are some superb historic collections, myriad connections, and local recollections.

There are three tall Standing Stones near Spott, Easter Broomhouse, Pencraig Hill and Kirklandhill Standing Stones. Their placement in the landscape of natural bounties and hill forts is a key to some of the smaller monuments, This coastal area is full of life from the sea and the land and the stones stretch into the sky that keeps the seas calm and the lands fertile.
