My contribution for this week's theme "symbols", for the Swedish photo group Fotosondag.

Tillman Hall, Clemson University, South Carolina. Tillman Hall is symbolic of Clemson. It is an old building (completed in 1892) and I'm not sure what it's used for now...When I was at Clemson I used to hear of pranks where people managed to get things up to the top of the tower: a horse, for example. My roomate said a friend of his managed to run a ribbon from the tower to Johnston Hall nearby (which is torn down now, I think). All that said, it was definitely sealed off when I went there so some of those stories might not be true....

The existing design of the Piazza del Campidoglio and the surrounding palazzi was created by Renaissance artist and architect Michelangelo Buonarroti in 1536–1546. At the height of his fame, he was commissioned by the Farnese Pope Paul III, who wanted a symbol of the new Rome to impress Charles V, who was expected in 1538. This offered him the opportunity to build a monumental civic plaza for a major city as well as to reestablish the grandeur of Rome. Michelangelo's first designs for the piazza and remodeling of the surrounding palazzi date from 1536. His plan was formidably extensive. He accentuated the reversal of the classical orientation of the Capitoline, in a symbolic gesture turning Rome’s civic center to face away from the Roman Forum and instead in the direction of Papal Rome and the Christian church in the form of St. Peter’s Basilica. This full half circle turn can also be seen as Michelangelo’s desire to address the new, developing section of the city rather than the ancient ruins of the past. An equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius was to stand in the middle of the piazza set in a paved oval field. Michelangelo was required to provide a setting for the statue and to bring order to an irregular hilltop already encumbered by two crumbling medieval buildings set at an acute angle to one another. The Palazzo del Senatore was to be restored with a double outer stairway, and the campanile moved to the center axis of the palace. The Palazzo dei Conservatori was also to be restored, and a new building, the so-called Palazzo Nuovo, built at the same angle on the north side of the piazza to offset the Conservatori, creating a trapezoidal piazza. A wall and balustrade were to be built at the front of the square, giving it a firm delineation on the side facing the city. Finally, a flight of steps was to lead up to the enclosed piazza from below, further accentuating the central axis.

Santa Casa de Misericordia. Siglo XVIII.

Holy House of Mercy. 18th century. The popular charity institute, which is intended to provide reception, training and work for children and poor elderly people. It's an institution very dear to the Bilbains.

Karola Crane. Only survivor of the recent industrial past of Bilbao. Karola was a beautiful young woman who to come to work crossed the river daily from the other shore. The workers at the nearby shipyard were eager to await their arrival by sounding the sirens of the factory with a noise. In their homage they named the crane.

St. Mamés Stadium. It's a reference of the highest level in the world of football. It is known by the nickname of The Cathedral. Choosed the world's best sports building by the World Architecture Festival 2015. In it he has always played the Athletic Club of Bilbao (1898), a team whose philosophy is unique in the world. Only those players who have been made in the quarry itself and those formed in the Basque Country clubs can play on the team and, of course, players who have been born anywhere in the Basque Country itself

Ramadan Crescent Moon & Venus Almost Like Pakistan Flag Symbols Above Saint Petersburg & Tampa Bay Florida At Breathtaking Early Spring Dusk - IMRAN™

To get this stunning capture I took 4 separate iPhone 14 Pro Max photos to maximize the colors and detail. I merged them as a panorama even though it is just a square view.

If you know the Pakistani flag, it has a crescent moon next to a solo star. Obviously, that is not to scale compared to what we see in the sky. But on this night the new moon of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and I believe Venus in the early night sky above it, combined in the right order to remind me of my motherland.

The molten gold and orange lava clouds flying across the horizon are typical magic of Tampa Bay sunsets silhouetting Saint Petersburg across from my blessed home in Apollo Beach, Florida. The deep-blue waters of not-that-deep Tampa Bay complete the contrasting effects of both words and colors. A moment of pure blessings and absolute bliss, of complete gratitude, and amazing grace.

The rose is the symbol of hope. It reminds us that even in dark times, the light of love can shine.

Smena Symbol sitting atop a vintage American made tripod. Arrived yesterday. Aside from removing the top and cleaning the viewfinder elements all appears in order.

The tripod is without any markers marks. Lower half made of brass with upper being aluminum. Anyone have an ideas on who could have made the tripod? Argus maybe? Maybe the tripod is not USA made after all?

Update: One of my contacts GAVE me a Blik rangefinder for this badboy. Many thanks.:-) I may also fabricate a lens hood for this Commie crap cam. Maybe I won't need it.

Another capture at Brompton Cemetery in London. I liked the contrast of the cross in the sky symbolising faith and prominence for whoever cared to look. The stonework was just artistry in its own right.

There are four basic types of iconographic representations of the cross: the crux quadrata, or Greek cross, with four equal arms; the crux immissa, or Latin cross, whose base stem is longer than the other three arms; the crux commissa, in the form of the Greek letter tau, sometimes called St. Anthony’s cross; and crux decussata, named from the Roman decussis, or symbol of the numeral 10, also known as St. Andrew’s cross. Tradition favours the crux immissa as that on which Christ died, but some believe that it was a crux commissa. The many variations and ornamentations of processional, altar, and heraldic crosses, of carved and painted crosses in churches, graveyards, and elsewhere, are developments of these four types.

I am not religious myself, but Christian and religious symbols are an integral part of a region's cultural identity. That is why religious symbols such as crosses or angels can be found everywhere in the landscape.

Macro Mondays: "Lockdown Song"

The first new music from my favorite band in twenty years! The album has been a godsend to my sanity. Of course these days you don't get the good old fasion vinyl, or even a Compact Disc. All digital baby!

From the bands web page here is an explanation of the meaning of the symbol:

"We like to say it is an ancient symbol that means "Blue Öyster Cult".

The BÖC logo was created by Bill Gawlik, the artist who created the band's first and second album covers. It is a stylization of the astronomical symbol for the planet Saturn. In the process of creating the album cover, Gawlick used a washer to separate the symbol into its 5 parts hook, bars and dot.

When the band was shown the artwork for the album cover, they instantly decided that it would be the perfect band logo, and that it is."

You have to love the 1970's. Well, at least I did.

The image is about 6.35 cm (2.5 inches) on the long edge.

Black cats have long been associated with bad luck, and superstitions have surrounded them since Medieval times. One may believe that if a black cat crosses their path, they will have bad luck, or that a black cat is actually a witch in disguise. These felines have also been folded into modern Halloween symbols, giving them the unearned reputation of being spooky.
