And then, among the graves, this beautiful rose ...

The ichthys or ichthus is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point so as to resemble the profile of a fish. The symbol was adopted by early Christians as a secret symbol. It is now known colloquially as the "sign of the fish" or the "Jesus fish".

Whisper Of A Thrill

Recently the field of theoretical cosmology has been enervated by the suggestion that our universe is the mirror image of another one stretching back in time before the Big Bang (see, for example, www.research.ed.ac.uk/en/publications/icpti-symmetric-uni... ).

Intrigued, I set out to test whether this was observable in practice. After a quick calculation on the back of an old envelope (cigarette packets now being not Politically Correct) I worked out that conditions would be favourable for an experiment in the period around the vernal equinox for my latitude (51N). At this time the angles of the Earth’s gravitational field, the neutrino flux from the sun and a local EM field could be arranged to the optimum.

So, setting a sufficiently powerful Tesla coil in a glass envelope with an inert gas (I used Nitrogen), I tried it out.

And it worked!

Sometimes I could actually see the dim reflection of the alternate universe appear in the glass capsule, but perhaps the best result was this one where I managed to create a wormhole bridging the paired universes.

If you look carefully at the image though you might observe that the energetic feedback created by the wormhole burnt out my coil… such are the sacrifices of science…

Storytelling idiocy aside, this image was one of the fun results of an evening spent with a local friendly group of photographers taking images of lightbulbs on tablets (and other things but I didn’t get that far :( ).

I used a clear glass bulb on my iPaddle which I set up to show some very colourful graphic images that I had generated using Midjourney (I finally found something useful to do with that toybox… The text prompt for this one, if you are interested, was ‘Close - up macro HDR photograph of the centre of mirrored 3D circle sculptures, overlapping rainbow circular fractal, vivid rainbow colours, graphic abstract’).

The bulb was lying on its side at an angle resting on the bayonet fitting so I made the canvas larger and rotated it. Starting in Capture One I dropped the greys to black using a levels adjustment and played with the Clarity and a little Dehaze. In Affinity I sharpened it with High Pass/Linear blend and a bit of Unsharp mask and enriched the colour. Then quite a lot of work with inpainting to remove the vestiges of the iPad and a lot of dust.

PS I forgot to mention that this was a focus stack of ten images, though I suspect only four or five contributed anything useful. The camera did the focusing and I used Helicon Focus for the stacking, which I've not really done before (it was fast, worked with raws and produced a dng output).

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Easter and 100x :)

The clock tower at Konak Square is Izmir's landmark today. It was built by architect Raymond Charles Pere in 1901 to commemorate 25th year of enthronement of Ottoman sultan Abdulhamit I.

A pair of Indiana Railroad's sharp looking SD70Ms head up their westbound train out of Indy. They are both ex-Norfolk Southern units. The Lucas Oil Stadium and part of the Indianapolis skyline are visible distant left.

The Delaware & Hudson had several run-through trains with the Lehigh Valley. One of those trains, symbol MA-2 (Mechanicsville – Allentown) is seen here approaching the village of Siegfried, just north of Northampton, Pennsylvania. In just four days, the D&H will increase its route-miles tremendously, being named the competitive alternative to Conrail in the northeast. To help support the additional traffic, the D&H will be given 47 Lehigh Valley and Reading locomotives, neatly patched in their former owners’ paint. This will greatly reduce the odds of seeing pure lightning stripe sets, such as this RS36/U23B/U23B/RS36 lashup.

Woodpeckers are often seen as symbols of resilience, perseverance, and tapping into one's inner strength, particularly in the context of spiritual and personal growth. Their persistent drumming can be interpreted as a reminder of the power of focus and determination, while their role in nature highlights their connection to the heartbeat of the natural world.

This one was way up there - not a very sharp image.

Macro Friday theme is sock so figured the symbol would be about all a macro could get for sock. Bit of gray toe, and red white and blue R not sure what that is, just a sock ;o)

Obviously, as can be seen in the amount of people circumambulating the stupa on the kora at ground level, the stupa is of significance to Tibetan buddhists, who have established a large community in Bodhnath or Boudha - many of them fled Tibet after the failed uprising in 1959. At the same time, it is a gathering place for many people, and indeed, is as pleasant a place as any to while away your time.

The sun has unobstructed access to the sides of the stupa, and, with a little caution for the sloping sides of the stupa, you can sit virtually anywhere. As the sun goes down and the colours of the stupa become warmer, there are more people around. The prayer flags flying above your head, the murmur coming from below, the friendly eyes of the omnipresent god that never even blink looking down on you, make for a peaceful experience, whether you are a buddhist or not.
