A heavily shielded, 1/8" thick chassis, brass connectors, and stainless steel grounding bolts. I'm sorry to note that Industrial Communications Engineers (ICE) owner Mike Koss, W9SU, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011. He was 57. According to his friend Brian Smith, W9IND, Koss was found on his workshop floor and paramedics were unable to revive him. - 31MAR2011

A model railroad exhibition commemorating a recently deceased pastor and hobby model railroader. Two tables were set up and operated by a nearby club at the church's office and community hall building in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary. We visited the exhibition this Saturday afternoon.

I decided to have a go at some creative light painting this weekend. My girlfriend Jemma was kind enough to participate and model for the images.
This is a 30 second exposure, I used an external flash to capture Jemma, and I then placed a black paper in front of the lens so that it wouldnt capture any more of Jemma, this in turn stopped the photo being over exposed.

This year I did two photowalks for SXSW. The first on Friday evening was arranged by my friend Alex Suarez, who arranged the one I participated in last year. For a twist on this year's walk, Alex arranged for a couple of models to join us as we made our way through the downtown entertainment district of Austin along Sixth Street. For the two hour shoot we split into two groups along the lines of Nikon vs Canon for the ease of sharing flash equipment and halfway through switched models.
The model for the first half for the Canon shooters went by Model Number Eight. Here I captured Eight along with eight columns of an overhang to the sidewalk along Trinity Street at Sixth Street.

As we walked down 6th Street, we asked the Chupacabra hot dog stand vendor if he wouldn't mind us photographing him with the model. He agreed and Lissette started off posing in front of the stand while he stood inside. Toward the end, we asked if she could step up with him and he agreed. I managed to catch this moment of Lissette seductively looking at the good natured, but stoic, vendor. I think both of them had fun and it made for some great shots.

Weapons and claws are magnetic and can be switched. Model is made from garbage (various lids for the body, and golf tees for the legs - also a few Bionicle bits for the joints. Pipes are thick florist wire bent into shape, knees are Fimo balls ). See WIP pics. 28mm Reaper figure for scale.

This electric fence charger seems to be a pre-capacitor switched model. Unless I have the wrong concept.

The model for the first half for the Canon shooters went by Model Number Eight. For this shooting location, Eight was positioned up on a fire escape stairwell. While several shooters were relying on speedlites to light the scene, I decided to try a couple of shots with exposure lock on the sky to catch her in silhouette. Well it mostly worked. I did have to do some additional masking for her to be completely darkened.

Today was our first day of school at the Hallmark Institute of Photography, and the first piece of equipment that they handed us was a light meter. Ive never used one before, but surprisingly it was very easy to learn. Of course we were stoked about learning new information, so as soon as we got home Rikki and I started to practice our new learned skills. We pulled out a set of studio lights and got to work. After switching modeling and photographer roles on and off for about ten minutes my camera died, so this was the end of the shoot, but I'm still happy with the outcome :)
Ohh and P.S - You're going to become VERYYYY familiar with Rikki throughout these next ten months. I'm not sure if shes fully aware of it yet, but I'm going to be taking a ton of pictures of her :)

After we swapped models with the Nikon group, we asked our new model Lissette to go around to the band's setup at the Paradise bar and pose with the guitar case. After a few shots I suggested she should cozy up to the microphone as though she were doing vocals. I think those shoots came out much better for me, not just because I liked her with the mike better than the guitar case, but also because it let her be more expressive in her poses, plus the lamp above her further back in the bar made for a nice impromptu hair light.

This is a task switching model based on a side panel as initially suggested in Owen Williams' photo blog: ywwg.com/wordpress/?p=717
This2nd iteration combines elements of the Windows7 taskbar style grouping, with OSX style expose, and also uses a zooming effect taken from Compiz' Alt-Tab Switcher. The background would become blurry (Gaussian blur) and be overshadowed. The clicked-on app windows would them jump to the fore, being very crisp and casting bigger than usual shadows over the blurry desktop background.
