On windy days critters like this Sweat Bee do not notice when I grab onto the stem of the Sourgrass Flower that it is foraging in. So I was able to get a shot of her collecting pollen. Image taken in Bacoli, Italy in April of 2020.

Halictidae Lasioglossum

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC, second curtain sync). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.

Outtakes from this week's assignment in my 52 Week Project.

I am not sure what damaged this Sweat Bee's eye, but it is not unusual to see that kind of damage. The bee was acting normally, and flew off after it got tired of me sticking the camera into its face. Sweat Bees (Halictidae) are known to bed down together in groups, and there are over a dozen that are using one of my Geranium flowers as a hostel.

Possibly Halictus sexcinctus.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F14, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.

I can't remember why I took this photo but I think it was probably to illustrate how much I was sweating. The first couple of weeks in Italy I felt like I sweat more than I had in all the rest of the weeks of my life combined.

My youngest son during his workout

Some people don't like to get sweaty. I do. Tonight's bikeride was great. Just arrived in Tallahassee today where I'll be for the next month or so. I actually haven't felt this good in a long time.

Bees resting under the petals of a yellow coneflower, possibly settling in for the night. I think all of them would be considered sweat bees (Halictidae) of some kind or another.

Found in a field down the street in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Terry, did I ever mention how happy I am that you suggested I get a macro lense? I had so much trouble learning how to use it but when things do work out it is awesome!

I managed to catch this one on the move between flowers in the garden...

Sweet sweet sweet...

The bridge shakes when large trucks passes and the neighborhood was sketchy but view of the downtown skyline, Interstate 5 and the two stadiums are great!

A group of Sweat Bees set up camp in one of my Geranium flowers. They like to sleep under the leaves in groups, and the plant seems to offer them some good protection. I checked on them after a heavy thunderstorm and they seemed to be OK. They are called Sweat Bees because some of them are attracted to the minerals in your sweat. Image taken in Lago Patria, Italy in August of 2021.

I know this bee is in the Sweat Bee family but not sure which one it is. After consulting with Bug Guide experts, I was told this was the Green Sweat Bee (Agapostemon virescens) female.

This Sweat Bee (L. leucozonium) was camping in my Lavender for a few days.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT (E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC, second curtain sync). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I'm holding on to the stem of the Lavender with my left hand, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady.
