Manufacturer/Model: Swarovski Habicht SLC 8X30WB (Mark III)
Field of View: 7.8 deg = 135.46 m/1,000 m; APFOV 62.4 deg
Weight: 612 gr (without neckstrap and lens covers)
Exit Pupil: 3.75 mm
Serial #/Year of Manufacture: DA8111440 = 2011 (To determine year of Swarovski manufacture add 1930 to 1st two numbers of serial number i.e. 81 1930 = 2011)
Notes: SL = Solid bridge model as opposed to the EL open bridge model; C = Compact; W = Wide angle; B = Suitable for eyeglass wearers.
The Mark I Habicht SLC introduced in 1988 was Swarovski’s first 8X30 roof prism binocular. It did not have phase coating and was not waterproof having no glass plates in front of its objective lenses. In 1990 an improved phase coated and waterproofed model, the Mark II Habicht SLC WB, came out to be replaced in 2003 by the Mark III with dielectric coated prisms and Swarobright anti-reflective coatings.
I acquired this Mark III by first purchasing a dilapidated Mark I (loose diopter, dusty inside, very brown/yellow image), sending it to Swarovski for warranty repair, and then accepting that company’s subsequent offer for an upgrade to this binocular for $400. I don’t mean to be overly harsh in describing this binocular because it is beyond a doubt a good one but I don’t think that by today’s standards it lives up to a discounted retail price of approximately $800 and definitely not its list price of $1,149. For that amount I would expect much better sharpness to the edge of field, a slightly brighter image and more comfortable eyecups for non-eyeglass wearers than this model has. Also, they are on the heavy side and, for me, not the most comfortable to hold and a little awkward and slow to focus. Possibly for some of these reasons, Swarovski has recently discontinued this model (many retailers continue to sell it) in favour of the lighter open bridge CL Companion model to be available July 2011.
Build quality of the binocular seems excellent and I will continue to use it quite a bit when I’m in the boat fishing or under wet conditions until I find something better. (I had purchased a Zen Ray ED2 7X36 for this purpose but it quickly became my wife’s favourite binocular. I thought she would prefer the Swarovski to the Zen Ray but to my surprise after a brief trial she unhesitatingly selected the Zen Ray.) Compared to other modern binoculars in collection I’d rate the Zen Ray ED 2 7X36 an overall somewhat better binocular and the Nikon SE 8X32 a much better one excepting the Nikon is not waterproof.
June 23/11 Update: I recently replaced this binocular's twist-in eyecups with the rubber-winged ones available from Swarovski, and for a non-eyeglass wearer, such as myself, this was a big improvement. The rubber-winged eyecups are simple to install, most comfortable to use and actually seem to improve the view.

Here's my newest pendant. It is made with 4mm Swarovski crystals and pearls and a mix of purple seed beads
I believe this is the same Mercedes SL600 that appeared at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon. It is covered with 300,000 Swarovski crystals which were applied by hand--no Beadazzler cheating! I have seen this done before, but this version was customized by Garson/D.A.D.

Manufacturer/Model: Swarovski 6X30
Field of View: 8.5 deg = 150 m/1,000 m; APFOV 51 degrees
Weight: 678 gr
Exit Pupil: 5 mm
Serial #/Year of Manufacture: 174564 = Probably late 1945 or 1946
Notes: Swarovski histories state that their first binocular, a 6x30, was made in Wattens Austria about 1935; during WW II they made approximately 180,000 Dienstglas 6x30's (the German army's principal binocular during WW II which was made by many manufacturers including Swarovski. See: www.flickr.com/photos/binocwpg/7516684888/in/photolist-cs... ); and their first post-war binoculars were made at the Absam factory starting 1949. However, there is evidence that immediately after the war Swarovski reconditioned surplus unissued Dienstglas binoculars or built them from surplus parts for sale to Allied servicemen and civilians exactly as did other makers such as Leitz, Voigtlander, and Hensoldt.
This binocular is a typical example of an early post-war Swarovski. Except for its markings it is a Dienstglas in every respect, and in some worn areas it's evident that it was re-painted black over the original WW II German Sandfarben (tan) finish. The stylized marking on the left prism plate represents DSW i.e. Daniel Swarovski. Note that the DSW and 6x30 markings are located in milled out areas where on Dienstglas 6x30's there would have been WW II German codings. Also, the serial number, 174564, is in accordance with those of the Dienstglas binoculars made by Swarovski during WW II.

Swarovski Habicht 10x40 with deep purple coatings and although suffering from some corrosion to the aluminium, in very good order. Image is bright and fairly sharp but with a slight yellow hue. They are also very light weight. and well made . Compared with the Kershaw Monarch 10x40 the image is brighter, wider but not quite as sharp.
Usable with Spectacles =No

I did not know this was a limited edition piece when I took the photo. I just thought it looked cool. Apparently it is $8,000+and limited to only 150 pieces worldwide.
