Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) is a medium-sized swallow, with gleaming white underparts. Adult males are bright iridescent blue-green above; females and immatures are duller brownish with limited or no iridescence. Always note compact shape, fairly broad wings, and slightly notched tail. Occurs in a variety of open habitats including grassy fields, lakes, and marshes. Often in flocks, sometimes mixed with other species of swallows.

Tree Swallows nest in tree cavities; they also readily take up residence in nest boxes. This habit has allowed scientists to study their breeding biology in detail, and makes them a great addition to many a homeowner’s yard or field.

This delightfully colorful mural is by artist Andrew Linskens, located in Green Bay.

We love to watch swallows fly around. They’re graceful acrobats in the air!

Target selected, tricky little subjects.

The swallow-tailed kite is the epitome of grace as they glide so effortlessly though the sky in search of food. Lakeland FL

Captured this swallow just after it landed.

Tough little bird to get in flight. Will try and do better. A challenge to myself. Peace Valley Park, New Britain Pa.

Welcome Swallow, Hirundo neoxena

These little birds had been alternately flying off the top of the stump and hunting, and then returning.

Somehow they got out of sync and both wanted to use the perch at the same time.

For the record, the perched one didn't yield.

The Tree Swallows nest in boxes next to the decking at Potter Marsh. An active bird, difficult to capture in flight, it seems that they don't rest much but will on occasion, perch for a moment. This one decided to do so on the deck railing and gave me an interesting perspective looking back down the railing.

Taken 5 July 2017 at Potter Marsh, Alaska.

About 30 of these birds catching insects at one of the ponds in the Eagle Marsh wetlands.

Taken whilst waiting for the boat to take us to Skomer Island. It was so wonderful to see swallows flying around getting good for their chicks and this one was so obliging and posed nicely for me to take a shot! HBW

Swallow feeding over the bramble. For me this image is summer personified.

Just known as the Swallow here, as we only have the one - elsewhere - Barn Swallow. It was actually regularly perched and singing on the TV aerial at my Bempton Cliffs B&B. By carefully opening the Velux window I could emerge and just about focus on it - it was very close to the lens MFD at 4.5 metres.

I have never noticed the red blending into the blue like this before, but haven't got this close to one before either!

Windy day with the sun in the right position to attempt capturing five species of swallows flying low over the water. These are the best of over two-hundred shots, with this VG Swallow being my favorite

The swallow-tailed kite is a pernine raptor which breeds from the southeastern United States to eastern Peru and northern Argentina. It is the only species in the genus Elanoides. Most North and Central American breeders winter in South America where the species is resident year round.
