SUTTON-HOO chest: 16" x 13" x 5"
Named for the place in England where Saxon treasure was recently unearthed.
Bequest for clothing for poor women and their poor families consisting of parents and children . especially children living at home and being dependant on their parents for support . This is another reediting of a photo shot last year. I tried to bring out detail both in sky and bushes hopefully without overdoing
Sutton Gault is a part of the parish of Sutton-in-the-Isle. It comprises a few houses and farms and an inn, 'The Anchor'. The Old Bedford River and New Bedford River pass through Sutton Gault and often flood into the land between them. It was also the site of Eric Laithwaite's magnetic levitation train tracks. The name derives from the gault clay that has been extracted from there.
A pretty little Ford divides the village of Sutton in East Bedfordshire. Be worried if the level ever reaches 6ft mind!
Some of the displays donated to the Alpine Historical Park in Sutton from the area's mining past. The mines around here were for coal and the ruins found in Sutton are from the "state-of-the-art" coal washery built by the Navy in 1921. The construction turned out to be faulty and it was never used more than a few times when the Navy found another coal source in California, abandoning their Sutton project. The washery then burned, but the old concrete arches were never removed.
