Civil Air Patrol Volunteers Supporting the Northern Illinois Airshow

Waukegan, IL —

Early Saturday morning, 32 Cadets and 14 Senior members from Civil Air Patrol’s Illinois Wing assembled at Waukeegan Airport to assist with ground operations at the Northern Illinois Airshow. The cadets, along with dozens of ROTC members, helped in a variety of positions from monitoring the flight line, to guarding aircraft, to recruiting new members.

With cool temperatures and overcast skies, the public came out in large numbers to get as close as possible to a wide variety of aircraft. Cadets and visitors alike spent time visiting everything from single engine trainers to WWII fighters and even a Boeing Business Jet. The show started with parachutes delivering the American flag during the national anthem and then proceeded into a series of aerobatic performances, jet flights, and even a jet-powered truck.

With thousands of visitors, the show relies on hundreds of volunteers to make their show so successful.

UNMISS, UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme are supporting the government of South Sudan in ensuring gender mainstreaming in the country’s process of security sector reform, as stipulated in South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement. One step in that direction was taken on 13 May, when the South Sudan's National Security Sector Women’s Network was launched. The network aims to attract more women to join the security sector and to empower female personnel by means of capacity building.

The creation of the network is in line with both the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (on women’s right to be effective participation in decision making related to issues of peace and security) and Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, to “build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels”.

A check of the support system under this crawl space shows that there is movement. The support beams are leaning.

This photo reminds me of a call I recieved the other day. A homeowner is remodeling his kitchen. That means brand new cupboards & granite counter tops! Woo Hoo! How exciting! He called because he has an older home and was very concerned that the new weight of the cabinets & counter top would compromise his support beams. He noticed something very similar to this when he looked at his support beams. One of our Systems Design Specialist is on his way to give the homeowner a free evaluation of the support system under his kitchen. Need our expert team? These are samples of what each soldier gets. Not much but much appreciated when you are in a hell hole. Besides its nice to know someone is thinking about them!!
