aka Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's SuperJames!
hfdt :)
Another in our series of British icons (and Hollywood icons today since James is Superman, minus the cape, but wearing his PJ top!). We shot this before the mad rush to get to hospital this morning, only to discover my oncologist had lost my script, so have been sent home and am waiting for someone, somewhere, to ring me to tell me where to collect my chemo.
The Tirrenia Navigazione ferry Athara, seen here at the Port of Olbia on Sardinia, Italy, carries a zany Superman livery.
I had a request for some Superman cookies so I made a couple of extra to give to a deserving Dad!
*Other than the dude and the logo I was at a total loss for other extra cookies to put with the set. I didn't want to copy but was having a mental block (I really didn't want to make Superman cookies!) thus the Cartoony Action words are totally taken from a party that Callye recently made cookies for: www.thepartydress.net/2011/04/batman-a-superhero-birthday...
SUPERMAN: i'm tired of you POO grabbing all the attention on FLICKR, i challenge you, you little piece of POO you !

Mr Fraser’s kidnapper ends up taking his victim to the outer limits of the city before deciding on a suitable location. One of Lexcorp’s old research and development labs before they had to expand and acquire a new facility. The site is still fairly well equipped to perform all manner of horrific actions against someone, as well as offering the benefit of privacy. This part of town is the old industrial district and there’s never anyone here after 9:30 pm. Much to this kidnapper’s benefit….or at least so he believes it to be.
The reality of his situation is that he’s currently having all of his actions recorded by my drones that are surveying him from a distance. Some people will no doubt question the ethics of such a matter, after all the justice system is always uncertain about using evidence which has been recorded without consent, much to most people’s surprise and or horror.
A quick scan of the facility exterior shows that even though the facility is state of the art, the fact that it has been abandoned for well over five years has allowed it to fall into considerable disrepair. Most notably the roof has collapsed in on the warehouse section of the building as well as visible signs of rust beginning to appear on the main entrance doors. It would appear Lionel had this facility built for as little money as he could spare, including the unnecessary cost of acquiring a Steel or Aluminium door. He really was a business man first and foremost and a scientist second. How often that’s overlooked given the amount of money Lexcorp now pours into Research and Development under his son’s guidance.
You’d be foolish to claim this wasn’t all in response to Clark’s appearance a few years back. After all, there’s nothing which stimulates scientific intrigue quite like witnessing the unexplainable first hand. Hell, it’s probably because of Clark’s appearance that the children of Metropolis seem to have taken such a keen interest in their studies. Attendance in almost every school has reached just shy of 95% a month, that’d be consider impossible just a couple of years ago. You can claim this is due to the Mayor’s newest policies, but this climb has been occurring well before he took office and not too long after Superman spoke about the importance of education for the young.
Who’d have figured that the big red and blue boy scout, who many go so far as to call the symbol of America, would be such a liberal.
As I narrow the distance between myself and the old facility, I take a brief glance at the live video feed from my drone that’s following the kidnapper and notice him storing Mr. Fraser in the lab’s controlled dispersal chamber. That certainly doesn’t bode well for Mr. Fraser, nor does the fact that his abductor is wearing an oxygen mask himself. Clearly this isn’t simply an abduction in the hopes of obtaining a ransom from relatives or acquaintances, but a targeted murder of Mr. Fraser.
Why? I cannot be sure. But it’s clear that the assailant intends to make his death look like an accident caused by Mr. Fraser accidentally wandering into the dispersal chamber. The proximity sensors would automatically reactivate the dormant computer systems and, in theory, disperse whatever residual gas was present in the system. At least, that’s what the authorities would assume had transpired. Fortunately, my drone tells a much different story.
“Why are you doing this? Who paid you?”
”No-one paid me. At least not yet.”
”Listen! I can pay you more! I get paid royalties because of this patent I own!”
”You mean the patent for the electrum alloy that your trust owns?”
”….How did you know about that?….Are you with the Court?”
”Court? What the hell are you talking about? I know about electrum because it’s what I’m rightfully owed.”
”Rightfully owed? Nothing in that trust belongs to you! The royalties it collects belong to me and me alone!”
”That’s not entirely true now, is it? The trust doesn’t belong to just you. It also belongs to someone else. Doesn’t it?”
”Y...Yes….it belongs to my former lab partner, Franklin Jones. He passed away two years ago.”
”And now you collect his royalties for the patent as well as your own, without any consideration for Franklin’s family? Not even for his son who recently returned from that mess we made in Kahndaq?”
”Rudy’s back here in Metropolis?”
He’s a lot closer than you think.”
”….You’re Rudy!?”
”The drink must be good if you only now recognise me.”
”You’ve changed so much since I last saw you! You’re even taller than I remember!”
”I’m also a lot poorer than the last time we saw one another Vernon. But I’m about to rectify that.”
”Rudy! What are you doing?”
”The trust is in both yours and my father’s names. To ensure that neither one of you screwed over the other you both agreed to mutual agreement clause, meaning there can be no change made without permission from both you. Then, when my father passed away it prevented any changes being made until you pass away.”
”What the hell are you talking about?”
”You probably didn’t read the fine print on your agreement. But when both you and my father are longer with us, the patent defaults to descendants.”
”But….I don’t have any children….”
”Oh, what a shame. I guess the royalties will get paid only to me.”
”This isn’t right Rudy. We both know this.”
”Nor is it right that you’ve been profiting off my dad’s hard work for the last two years whilst I’ve been forced to fight for my life on the streets! Abandoned by the very country I claimed to be protecting when I went into Kahndaq!”
….I’m sorry. If I had known….”
”You’d have done what anyone else would have done. Turned your back, and pretended that I didn’t exist.”
One kilometre and closing. Worst case scenario I’m there in four minutes. Just got to hope that Mr. Fraser can stall his kidnapper for just a little longer so I can get there to stop whatever it is he intends to do with that equipment he’s picking up.

Superman stood outside Union Station on the south side of Adams Street. He used a cane for support and was standing in the middle of a river of commuters. He's been out here 30 years. When I first asked what his name was, he said "Superman", with a smile. I asked him why he called himself that and he replied, "because of all the things I've been through and overcome". He stays in a shelter, but is out here 7 days a week. Other than shelter, he needs food. He has a small locker at the shelter, but can't keep too much in it because of it's size. He was a very gentle kind soul, with the strength...of Superman.
Just watched the Pilot episode of Supergirl, thought I would take a pic of this Beauty along with her cousin
Metropolis. The city that never sleeps. Or at least, that’s what the media would have you believe. They’d have you believe most things these days. Men that appear with a bolt of lightning. A woman that’s part human, part feline and perhaps most bizarrely of all. The idea that our beloved Superman can shoot out rainbows and miniature versions of himself out of his hands. How they thought of that headline, I’ll never know. I’d be lying though if I said I wasn’t curious as to what inspired them to write it.
But things have been off here in Metropolis these last two or three days. Everything feels…. different for some reason. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s like the city is suddenly taking a turn for the worse, but I can’t explain how. Maybe it’s simply because I’ve actually managed to intervene in more criminal actions these last few days than I have since I put on this damn thing. It’s unusual that I’m so ‘lucky’ these days. Can’t believe I used the term ‘lucky’ to describe witnessing a crime in progress. Perhaps what’s most perverse is that I think that I’m slowly becoming desensitised to it.
Goodness knows what it’s done to Clark by this point. Hell, maybe it finally got to him. That would explain why I haven’t seen him on the roof of Amertek these last few days. At least I hope that’s why I haven’t seen him. Last thing I want to think is that something bad may have happened to him. He’s a good young man and unlike most in his generation, he tries to find the positives in everything. I dread to think what sort of Superman he’d be if he didn’t have that outlook.
Whatever it is that’s taken Clark’s attention away from Metropolis is irrelevant for me though. Without a Superman to watch over it, I’ve had to step up and try to fill the hole left by his absence. Hopefully word doesn’t get out that Superman’s missing. The last thing I need is everyone going crazy knowing that there’s no Superman to stop them. I might be able to do more than police, but I’m still nowhere near his capabilities, and everyone knows that.
To compensate for my lack of superhearing and supersight, I’ve been forced to fast track the microdrones I’d been developing and deploy them throughout Metropolis. Sure I might not be able to be everywhere but at least these help me to prioritise where I’m needed. Instinct will only take you so far. Praise the wonder that is multimillion dollar technology. Hopefully the United States government won’t mind that I’m currently using an early stage prototype of their new surveillance programme idea. Then again, won’t they don’t know won’t hurt them.
It’s thanks to the surveillance programme that I’m able to witness an abduction first hand. Well, as first hand as watching a camera live stream an abduction can be. Running an image of the victim through the suits databases identifies him as Vernon Fraser, 64 years old. Recently widowed and retired from his job as a Lexcorp security guard four years ago. Can’t imagine he’s got many life savings stashed away thanks to the wages Lionel used to pay but he seems happy enough with his dog for company. Makes it rather heart-breaking to watch his kidnapper gun down his dog with three shots to the head.
”Miko! You bastard! What did you do to her?”
”I gave her a quick end. Can’t say you’ll be so lucky.”
”What do you mean? What do you want with me?”
”Oh we’ll have plenty of time to go over that later Mr. Fraser. But first, does this smell like chloroform to you?”
Before Fraser has a chance to run, his kidnapper forces a rag into his face and holds it there ten seconds. On camera it looks like an ordinary piece of cloth and it’s difficult to identify if there genuinely is chloroform on it. That’s quickly confirmed as Mr. Fraser quickly loses consciousness and collapses back into the arms of the kidnapper. I attempt to angle the cameras to get a proper look at the kidnapper’s face without allowing him to see the camera, to no avail. It doesn’t help that he’s wearing a ski mask over his face as well.
As he carries Mr. Fraser to what I assume is his car, I have the camera attached to the bottom of his car so I can track the vehicle across Metropolis. I’m not sure what this kidnapper’s motives are but I suspect they’re anything but good for Mr. Fraser.
June 12 Is Superman Day
Faster than a speeding bullet!
More powerful than a locomotive!
Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound!
"Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"
"Yes, it's Superman, strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands; and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way."
"And now, another episode in the exciting Adventures of Superman."
The first television actor who remains the benchmark of all the Superman shows is George Reeves, born as George Keefer Brewer on January 5, 1914, and died on June 16, 1959. The series featured him from 1952-1958 on the television program “The Adventures of Superman”.
Superman was created in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster met in 1932 while in high school in Cleveland and bonded over their mutual love of fiction. Siegel aspired to become a writer and Shuster aspired to become an illustrator. Siegel wrote amateur science fiction stories, which he self-published as a magazine called Science Fiction: The Advance Guard of Future Civilization. His friend Shuster often provided illustrations for his work. In January 1933, Siegel published a short story in his magazine titled “The Reign of the Superman”.
It wasn’t until April 18, 1938 that the Superman we know of today appeared, and made his debut in Action Comics #1. It was so popular that Superman got his own comic book the following year.
Superman Day itself was started in 2013 by DC Entertainment, two days before the release of the Superman film, Man of Steel. At this time it was known as Man of Steel Day, and it was not until subsequent years that the day simply became known as Superman Day. Both the name change and the continuation of the day seem to have happened organically. On the inaugural day, DC Entertainment partnered with comic book retailers and bookstores across the United States to celebrate the day, and gave out free copies of All Star Superman #1 Special Edition.
How to Observe
Celebrate Superman Day be doing all things Superman related. Watch Superman movies and TV shows. Read Superman comic books. Listen to songs that reference Superman. Have a Superman themed party. To get more ideas it may be a good idea to read this book. This day could also be used as a day to help people who are in need, as that is what Superman does with his time.
How many of you remember that old Black and White series starring George Reeves as the original Superman?

Based on his New 52 appearance... I felt the cape looked sooooo good, it deserved a photoshop just so you could see XD
Back from the dead, Superman continues his fight against evil (by killing literally all of his villains)
Bit of a cliche I know, but when you have got the T-Shirt its time to do the shot. We all have the hidden super-hero inside us (don't we??)
