Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis_shrimp:

Mantis shrimp are carnivorous marine crustaceans of the order Stomatopoda. Stomatopods branched off from other members of the class Malacostraca around 340 million years ago. Mantis shrimp typically grow to around 10 cm (3.9 in) in length, while a few can reach up to 38 cm (15 in). A mantis shrimp's carapace covers only the rear part of the head and the first four segments of the thorax. Varieties range in colour from shades of brown to vivid colours, with more than 520 species of mantis shrimp known. They are among the most important predators in many shallow, tropical and subtropical marine habitats. However, despite being common, they are poorly understood, as many species spend most of their lives sheltering in burrows and holes.

Called "sea locusts" by ancient Assyrians, "prawn killers" in Australia, and now sometimes referred to as "thumb splitters"—because of the animal's ability to inflict painful wounds if handled incautiously—mantis shrimp have powerful raptorial appendages that are used to attack and kill prey either by spearing, stunning, or dismembering. Some mantis shrimp species have specialised calcified 'clubs' that can strike with great power, while others have sharp forelimbs used to seize the prey (hence the term "mantis" in their common name).

A great street moment, this woman on the right was passing this couple and noticed they were both wearing superhero shirts for Superman and Batman and happened to be next to each other. It appeared the two on the left didn't know each other but were caught up in the energy of this woman's surprise and excitement as well.

The world is crazy. Tragedies happen every day but there's some good stuff too if you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

Finally ready to get back behind the camera again. I had fun and learned alot with this project during its first year.

The coming project ideas look to be just as enjoyable and educational as the first. It'll be great practice with lighting, camera techniques and Photoshop. I'll share tips along the way.

Though a native Martian, E'rik J'onzz was different from the rest of his people. In addition to his normal physical and mental Martian abilities including shapeshifting and telepathy, E'rik had a mutation that allowed him to manipulate electromagnetic fields in addition to his general powers of telekinesis. His great powers made him and others like him an outcast among the Martians. Frustrated with his struggles between the regular Martians and his fellow mutants, he fled to Earth and joined the JLX. An enemy to his people, but a hero to Earth, E'rik, known as the Magnetic Manhunter, remains one of the most powerful creatures in the solar system.

I captured this moment at El. Franco Lee Park and thought about posting it and making a reference to Superman because of the large S that I see formed by the clouds in the sky. I thought about Superheroes a lot and realized that the comic book characters are not the ones that we should be looking up to. Most people think of superheroes, but after all they are mere comic book characters, and are made to look larger than life in movies. Just empty words.

Since it is Memorial Day, I think that we need to sit back and think about who the REAL SUPERHEROS really are. They are the men and women to stepped up to fight tyranny and to fight against those who would steal our freedoms away. They are the men who charged forward knowing full well that they would be taking their last steps. They are the men who climbed aboard the bombers and aircraft flying missions that they knew were one-way flights. They have more courage than most of us can summon up and they stepped forward into the breach for the sake of freedom. Let us not forget their sacrifices and the cost that they paid for freedom. May they rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord. They gave everything so that we can enjoy life and be free. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends.

Superheroes and Steampunk? Don't mind if I do....d

My favorite variety of villain: the one's who're just having a good time being bad. Cameron Mahkent, son of the OG, cold-gun wielding Icicle, gained his cryokinetic powers from birth by the radiation caused by his father's gun. He took up the name not because of his father but just to cause some mayhem!

The first figure I've made using the new Overwatch pieces. It could do with some polish, but I like it alright.
