I got sunblock all over my socks (I blame Homeland Security) and had to send them to be laundered. $2.50 and they came back in a box.

I don't think I can still call it "snow nose" in July...

Know before you go

BE PREPARED for the Unexpected

Bring Hat, Water, Sunscreen

The sun and heat can be intense. Bring and drink plenty of water, wear a hat, and apply sunblock often. Take along high-energy snacks.

Have A Plan And Share It

Tell someone where you are going and when you will return. Know what time the sun sets. Never hike alone.

Know Where You Are

Wind will erase your footprints. GPS can be unreliable. Follow trail markers, carry a compass, and keep landmarks in sight. If you get lost, use flashlight or something shiny to help others find you.

Bring Extra Clothing

Summer thunderstorms bring rain and lightning. Clouds and rain can make the temperature drop quickly. If you see a gathering storm or hear thunder, take cover inside a car or building.

Wear SUNGLASSES to cut down on the harsh sun glare off the sand.

EMERGENCIES CALL 911 or TEXT a FRIEND

SAVE YOUR BATTERY Keep it off while hiking

In this national park data and cellular signal strength can vary drastically. Sometimes you can text a friend when you not able to make a call. Saving your battery for emergencies can mean the difference between life or death.
