Young Audiences teaching artist Danyett Tucker introduces students to the world of illustration.

 

Young Audiences partnered with Baltimore City Public Schools to offer an arts-integrated 22nd Century Pioneers Summer Camp site to Baltimore City middle school students in July 2014. Young Audiences teaching artists and Baltimore City teachers co- created arts-based math and science lessons for students each morning, and worked with students on arts enrichment projects each afternoon.

Congratulations to the Avondale Regional Branch Library teens for all the reading they completed this summer! They're celebrating an end of Summer Learning with super snacks, silk-screening, gaming, and prizes galore!

 

Sculptor Mary Ann Mears toured Ladew Topiary Gardens with our Summer Arts & Learning Academy students. They looked at various shapes and changing forms in the garden, imagined what our natural world would look like to them if they were a different size, and talked about how nature inspires her artwork. The children had great questions for the artist about her process and the work itself!

We closed out Virtual SALA with an ice cream social! After a long summer of learning from the screen, families got to come out to the Sisson Street Community Garden for a social distance treat: Taharka Brothers Ice Cream! Students also got to take home free window sill garden kits from Great Kids Farm!

Gnomes also played a big part in SRP this year. How many gnomes did yu fund at the library this summer?

 

Dig Into Reading was this year's summer reading theme and we had fun all summer digging up fun for all the great readers who signs up this year. Our grand finale at the First Tennessee Pavilion was a wonderful summer morning filled with games and friends and prizes. Keep on reading!

Staff from the Central Library brought their Rollin' Beats Music Lab to the East Lake Branch Library to show the group of Girls Inc. ladies how to create and mix their own digital music. They were an enthusiastic and engaged group, and we believe we have a few musicians in the making!
