Dig Into Reading was this year's summer reading theme and we had fun all summer digging up fun for all the great readers who signs up this year. Our grand finale at the First Tennessee Pavilion was a wonderful summer morning filled with games and friends and prizes. Keep on reading!

Downtown Branch kicked off the Make.Play.Read.Learn program with tons of fun activities for all ages. We played video games, made Dr. Who-inspired masks and paper robots, tried science experiments, and visited with animals from the Chattanooga Zoo.

Art is Everywhere!

 

Our talented Baltimore City Public Schools students took the stage at Station North and the Mercury Theater to share their dance, improv theatre, music, and spoken word performances. At StillPointe Theatre, students exhibited their work in fashion design, painting, and pottery.

The Central Library Youth Department hosts day 3 of Coding Gems, a free Summer Fun Coding Camp for girls ages 10–15.

Description: Congratulations to the Summer Learning Grand Prize winner in the Adult category (ages 18+). The goal was to read at least eight hours

Students participate in the Bell program for summer learning at Virginia-Stevenson Elementary School, part of the Mad River school district.

Students from Summer Arts for Learning at Goodnow took their imaginations on a tour of the Baltimore Museum of Art's sculpture garden, then investigated mosaics as they created their own tiled artwork!

Our 2023 Bloomberg Arts Interns toured Station North in Baltimore making stops at JHU MICA Film Centre and Motor House.

Congratulations to the Avondale Regional Branch Library teens for all the reading they completed this summer! They're celebrating an end of Summer Learning with super snacks, silk-screening, gaming, and prizes galore!

 

Staff from the Central Library brought their Rollin' Beats Music Lab to the East Lake Branch Library to show the group of Girls Inc. ladies how to create and mix their own digital music. They were an enthusiastic and engaged group, and we believe we have a few musicians in the making!

Classroom teachers and teaching artists are exploring learning strategies in the classroom, honing lesson plans, and discussing mindfulness and restorative practice.

Baltimore City Public Schools and Young Audiences' Summer Arts Academy is an action-packed, full-day, five-week program that introduces students to a wide variety of art forms—from illustration, to spoken word, to percussion, to drama and dance—and gives students a chance to work alongside students from across the city and be taught by professional artists. Students have the opportunity to imagine, create, and express who they are through the arts and to concentrate in an art form of their choice.
