75 Year ofMartyrdom .
.
After gloriously fighting its way out of two centuries of colonial domination, India .
emerged as the largest democracy in the world. The great sons of India -Bhagat Singh, .
Sukhdev, Rajguru and many more nurtured the seed offreedom with their own blood. .
Today, after just over 55 years of independence, we as a nation stand at a crucial juncture. While the democracy has struck deep roots and shows signs of maturing, India today faces the tvvin threats: the urH.'f!ual and exploitative globalisation and a divisive, exclusivist vision of our society based on hatred and violence. They, unfortunately, are striking at the very roots of the values and ideals championed by the Freedom Struggle. The confident and inclusive cultural ethos, which has been a civilization hallmark of Hindustan is being transformed into a chauvinistic and exclusive world-view. The long cherished ideals of democracy, equity, justice and dignity to all are sought to be compron1ised, corrupted and distorted in the name of a forced globalisation and communalisn1. .
This is the time to pause and ponder. \Ye need to appreciate the fact that soctal ideals need to be refined and re-defined before they are turned into vacuous and reactionary symbols. \Ve need to reiterate the dictum that a battle is won or lost first in the creative and imaginative realm ofideas and words. .
As we remember Bhagat Singh, the epiton1e ofrevolutionary nationalism, we invite you to be a part of a collective introspection as we explore the meaning of 'Patriotism' with some vibrant minds and lilting tunes: .

ACall to participate in the 'Freedom Struggle' against Brahmlnlcal Fascism and Re-colonization Process! .
The present times are periods of great crisis for nation~ sove~eignties. Th!! country which belongs to all of us has been under attack from multinational corporate. ·In all the sphere of education. economics, politics. family, we are no longer the one to decide our own future. Since the history of "transfer of power" this country has adopted pro-cpaitalist economic policies. which were further acceleratedaftgr the.l990's. The new Mantra of liberalization-Privatization-Globalization has blinded the political leadership across the parties. The Nee-liberal fundamentalism has its aim in destroying the public institutions whether it is student unions in the educational institutions. working class unions. peasant movements. or ·public distribution systems for the safeguards of poor. Multinational corporations flourished on the patronage of Indian state. lnspite of being able to produce wheat rice, sugarcane. metal. oil. clothes. technologies we were forced to import. We have become 'slaves' in our country. the neo-liberal inventions e.g. SEZ are testimony to this. .
These times remind us the "real freedom movements" led by the revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh. Sukhdev. Rajguru. Chandrasekhar. Jatin.Asfaqullah etc. during 1920-30's. They all fought for the reconstruction of society on socialist and egalitarian lines .
where "no man exploits another man". They fought for the creation of a caste-le~. class-less. non-communal society. These revolutionaries were no romantic heroes: rather they read and followed Marxist-leninist writings on communism. Those were the times when lenin marched the world with the victory of Bolsheviks. Indian revolutionaries were fighting against the colonial rule but were also deeply sensitive to the inequalities of caste. class. sex and religion prevalent in those times as they are today. It is these revolutionaries who gave us the slogan of "INilUILAB ZINDABAD". The so-called 'Bapus' and 'Mahatmas' of this country, then. betrayed their own countrymen and called the struggle and sacrifice of these revolutionaries as 'waste of energies'. Similarly. the revolutionaries of the Telangana movement in 1940's and the Naxalbari movement in 1980's radicalized the call for armed revolution. They sacrificed their lives while fighting for the cause of an egalitarian society which was betrayed by the ruling castes and classes of this country. Thus. in today's times it be.comes moral responsibility for us to uphold those principles for which our revolutionaries sacrificed their lives. In .
this scenario. let's understand and resist the politics of global imperial forces that are enslaving our country again. .
Take a closer look at what is happening around the world. People of Iraq are being enslaved and.tortured in their own country;the Kashmiris are murdered for raising their demand of self-determination. Simil~rly. the Eelam people are caged inside barbed fences:the North east nationalities are oppressedand denied their status for self deter~ination. Our nation's wealth is being plundered without any restriction by ~arge multinational corporations from imperialistic countries like the US. and their compra~or bourgeois Indian partners like the Ambani's. Adani's. Mittal's and lata's. It does not stop with just natural resources -about 5 lakh crores of tax payers' money has been given away to multinational corporations as subsidies and tax concessions by our government. But when it comes to providing basic amenities to its own citizens like education. healthcare. drinking water etc. the governm~nt says it does not have enough money in its budget. World Bank issues orders to our government to cut down the money spent for the welfare of the people-our government heeds to such orders without aword a~d cuts down its expenses on education. agriculture. small industries. petrol. diesel. gas etc. We have lost our right to free education -who is responsible for that? It Is our government which. instead of considering education as a basic and necessary service to be offered to its citizens. declares it as a commodity and allows private players to exploit. The state educational institutions. where poor are getting educated. are deliberately undermined. Private educational institutions. which are nothing but robbers' dens. proliferate and thrive. Birla GAmbani report guides this government it has created a number of thugs in the field of education like the business schools. management schools. II PM. Lovely University. Jindal University. Azim Premji University. Amity University, etc. These bandits have developed themselves as mini·comprador bourgeois. As if these are not .
1 enough.foreign universities are also allowed intothe country to loot their share. e This does not stop witheducation: whatever wealth our nation possesses. every piece of it is being targeted by multinational 0 corporations. For instance. Coal. is one of our primary sources of energy for producing electricity. ironS steel etc. Industries will come .
to a standstill without electricity or iron. Our coal reserves would not last even for 40 more years. The multinational corporations and .
w .
their comprador Indian partners are mining immeasurable amount of coal and exporting them. Recently we have also come to Know .

Re-enacting Thackeray's Legacy:.

.
Violence, Hooliganism, and Outright War on Democracy.
in Mumbai Following Balasaheb Thackeray's Death.
.
Immediately after Bal Thackeray's death in Mumbai following a long illness, Shiv.
Sena indulged in orchestrated violence and hooliganism after a young Muslim girl.
in Mumbai made a simple comment on how public life in Mumbai was paralysed.
during his funeral..
.
Following Thackeray's death and his funeral conducted with full state honours by.
the state government, the whole of Mumbai came to a standstill, with several shops.
shutting down and public transport being severely affected. After this, a 21-year old.
woman living in Mumbai, Shaheen Dhada, commented through a Facebook post,.
saying that a bandh on the occasion Thackeray's funeral was not necessary - "we.
should remember Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev", she added. One of her friends.
"liked" the comment. What followed was absurd - and highlighted just how weak.
our democracy is, and how vulnerable to muscle-flexing by the right-wing..
.
Shiv Sena has said Thackeray has "left a huge legacy" - and soon after has been.
showing us what exactly this "legacy" is all about:.
· 21-year old Shaheen and her friend Renu were arrested by the Mumbai.
.
police (based on a complaint by the Shiv Sena) under 505 (2) for making.
statements "creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill will". They were.
remanded to 14-day judicial custody and finally released from custody only.
after they paid bail..
· Shaheen's uncle, Dr. Abdul Yusuf Dhada, runs a clinic in Palaghar,.
Mumbai and today Shiv Sena goons ransacked the clinic, broke furniture.
and other infrastructure in the clinic and forced all the patients to move.
out. Even though complaints have been filed with the Mumbai Police, no action.
has been taken on the 40 Shiv Sena goons who orchestrated this violence in.
full public view..
.
The attacks by the Shiv Sena, are, of course, in the good old Shiv Sena tradition.
of intimidation and violence. But these are compounded by the attitude of the.
Mumbai police - which has obediently carried out the Shiv Sena's diktats and.
arrested two young women for expressing an opinion on a social networking site!.
What is equally shameful is the attitude of the Maharashtra government..
Balasaheb Thackeray, who was once disenfranchised by the Election Commission.
