And to happily lie down on the grass to listen to
a subtle sorrow.
And at night to scan the hill to discover

To ask yourself why when sadness falls
at the bottom of the heart
like snow it makes no noise.
And to drive like a madman with headlights off in the night
to see
if it’s really so difficult to die.
And to clench the hands to hold on to
something that
is inside me
but in your mind, it is not.
You cannot understand.

To got out into the heath in the morning
where you aren’t able see a step ahead of you
to look for yourself.
To talk, more or less, with a fisherman
for hours and hours
to not feel that something inside of you is dying.

It's hard for me to decide if Mossy Grotto Falls or Panther Creek Falls is my favorite waterfall in the northwest. Panther is big and powerful, Mossy Grotto much smaller and subtle. But, there's something about Mossy Grotto that I just love. The two symmetrical ridges form a perfect V where the water cascades down and the rest of the creek meanders around beautiful lush scenery in spring. It's a really special place. I probably had the most fun photographing this one out of all the falls I visited this spring. Pretty straightforward shot, although I did blend in a different exposure for the ferns on the right. I was very close to the ferns so I used an exposure at a different focal length and also bumped my ISO up to ensure I could use a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the ferns.

Made this heart with ribbon I used round the christmas cake last year. It had wire at the edges to bend into shape. Surrounded it with heart confetti.

For some reason, I love shooting dead trees, and there was no shortage of them in Southwestern US. I guess they must be dying of thirst with all that heat and dryness. I find they always turn out awesome, especially in black and white. This was in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, USA
For the first time in a long while, I was excited to go out and shoot. There was fog, and I was heading into work. This makes a difference, actually, because Half Day, Wright Woods, and Ryerson forest preserves are on my way to the office. When working at home, it seems like so much more effort to go to these places (early in the morning), and then come back.
Anyhow! The fog cooperated and enough lingered to produce some sunbeams along one of my favorite paths. The angle might not be the best for amazing sunbeams, but at least they are there.

This was a shot taken at sunset. It was an intense and beautiful sunset, probably one the nicest I have seen in almost a year. For this particular image, I had deliberately substantially desaturated the image because I wanted to convey intensity but also a sense of holding back - perhaps a juxtaposition of both subtlety and intensity.

Awash in the softening Spring palette, the very first buds are just beginning to form. These are on a huge, old Mountain Laurel tree. :)

Deep East Texas.
The last of a series of shots of a beautiful waterfall deep in Pineywoods of East Texas. This shot provides a broader look at the surrounding habitat, and the large sandy bottomed pool that has formed at the base of the falls. A sight like this must have been an unexpected, and welcoming site to early settlers exploring the region. Perhaps it reminded them of their eastern homes, or perhaps it provided the inspiration to continue their journey. Today I count myself lucky to have witnessed a scene like this, and wonder if future generations will be so fortunate.
