"Meringue, PB&J"
The true encore of the evening - we were welcomed into the kitchen serenaded by the crew for the last bit of dessert - nitrogen dipped PBJ that when bitten releases a dragon-like puff of 'smoke' from your nose (this part I personally thought was a tad "too yesterday" now as every chef that works with "cold cooking" has this bit up their sleeves) and coffee/tea to cap the evening.

Last night's (Nov. 23) temperature was -10'C! Temperature at time of above photo: -9.5'C
We had snow overnight Friday, covering the hardy fuscia (one of the few flowering shrubs still available for the hummers), and on Sunday we spotted two Anna's Hummingbirds vying for supremacy at the feeders, silly things, unnecessarily wasting energy when there are multiple ports on each of two feeders available! The last couple of days, however, have brought sub-zero temperatures both overnight & during the daylight hours so we've been putting only one feeder out at a time so as to ensure ice-free nectar at all times.
I've noticed today, that whichever hummingbird (I hope there's still more than one) that comes in to feed has been resting for a good 15 or 20 minutes at a time, taking a few sips every now & then, thus remaining on the perch, as pictured above. The feeder is beneath a wide overhang, & somewhat sheltered from any prevailing wind.
UPDATE (Dec. 12th): Shortly after posting the above photo, milder temperatures returned, melting all the snow, so we're back to hanging two feeders outside at all times. Spotted two Anna's once again fighting for exclusive use of the feeders!
