The church dedicated to Saint Mary, documented in 1319, was built in Romanesque style in the 13th century. The defense tower, which also houses the belfry, was built in 1438. The present appearance of the church is due to the restoration works of the building in 1853, when all its southern and eastern parts were structurally modified.

A remarkable fact is the existence of a network of tunnels that start from under the altar and lead to 30 houses in the locality.

The religious building once had a rectangular fortified enclosure with two defense towers. Collapsed in 1877, the fortification was then demolished by the inhabitants in 1924 and again between 1953 and 1954. Currently inconspicuous traces of some walls can still be seen to the west of the church.

In 1996 important religious pieces of inestimable value, the altar, the bronze baptismal font, flags, two paintings from the First and Second World Wars and the organ were moved to Sibiu for protection.

Built in 1917, this Chicago School and Sullivanesque-style building was designed by Louis Sullivan as one of his late-career “jewel box” bank buildings that are largely located in smaller communities throughout the midwest. Built for the People’s Federal Savings and Loan Association, the building was the result of the bank’s secretary, LaFayette M. Studevant, coming across the previous bank that Sullivan had designed for The Home Building Association Company in nearby Newark, Ohio in 1914, which Studevant found to be an immensely beautiful design that adequately communicated that the People’s Federal Savings and Loan was an elegant and progressive business. In addition to Louis Sullivan, the building’s frescoes and mosaics were designed by architectural decorator Louis J. Millet, and clay modeler Kristian Schneider, whom developed moulds for the building’s terra cotta, metal, and plaster details.

The building features a red brick exterior with terra cotta trim, decorative panels with Sullivanesque detailing, Sullivanesque trim, stained glass windows on the side facade, a decorative exterior mosaic in the tympanum below the arch above the front entrance with the word “Thrift” in gold lettering in the middle of an expanse of blue tile and decorative white, cream, green, purple, red, and orange tile accents, decorative metal lettering on the facade above the arch displaying the words “The People’s Federal Savings & Loan Assn”, which was modified when the word “federal” was added to the bank’s name, with another mosaic framed by terra cotta trim above the nine side stained glass windows, featuring the words and numbers “1886 The People’s Savings & Loan Association 1917” in cream tile surrounded by an expanse of green tile and white accents, black marble cladding at the base, gargoyles above the pilasters framing the front entrance, fixed glass windows at the corners, brass double doors, an intricate decorative panel above the front entrance, a shorter one-story rear wing with seven windows with terra cotta panels above, terra cotta panels at the top of the facade, and a gargoyle at the top of the pilaster at the rear of the building. The building’s interior features a low vestibule that opens into a large two-story-tall banking hall with walls clad in brick and plaster, with quarter sawn oak beams, trim, and wall clock, featuring simple Arts and Crafts details, decorative urns, black marble counters, a blue slag glass skylight, a marble and terra cotta water fountain, and a vault at the rear of the main banking hall.

The building received a one-story rear addition in 1987, designed by Freytag and Freytag and utilizing buff brick, which is clad in buff brick to differentiate it from the original building, with a recessed entrance that helps to accentuate the end of the original building and the start of the addition. The building still remains home to the bank that it was built for, now part of the Farmers & Merchants State Bank, with the exterior and interior very well-preserved. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a National Historic Landmark in 1972, and is a contributing structure in the Sidney Courthouse Square Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Everyone is talking about him. He is a man of style and sophistication; he may be seen at an NBA game one night and an art gallery opening the next. Able to navigate any social setting, he is informed, intriguig, well-moisturized, and very much in vouge these days. He is the new male ideal: the metrosexual man.

Whether you intend to give your life a complete makeover or simply want to know what all the buzz is about, the amusing little handbook you now hold in your hands is your key to unlocking the metrosexual mystery. Witty and wise, it includes guidance on these and so many other pressing concerns:

• The do’s and don’ts of fashion (no pleated pant, and school rings should stay in the dresser drawer until reunion weekend)

• The essentials of personal frooming (product makes perfect but an overly-shellacked do is taboo)

• Indispensable, quick-fix home decor tips (just say no to milk crates and street signs)

• How to order wine and behave well when dining out (don’t sniff that cork, and for heaven’s sake, chew with your mouth closed!)

Snapped this shot at a sea beach where one of my friends took off her shoes and bag to play.

Another oldie. Anyone know who painted this??

As beautiful & warm as it is, I do miss orange and red and pumpkin picking :(

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

We want to thank you for your interest in our work and thanks for visiting our work on Flickr, we do appreciate you and the contributions you make in furthering our interest in photography and on social media in general.

Sektor Gaza (Russian: Се́ктор Га́за, can be translated as a Gas Sector or Gaza Strip) was a Soviet and Russian punk rock band from Voronezh, founded in 1987 by Yuri Klinskikh.

History

Sektor Gaza was founded in Voronezh by Yuri Klinskikh, also known as Yuri "Khoy". The group is named after an industrial district of Voronezh nicknamed Sektor Gaza due to its high levels of environmental contamination (also corresponds to the Russian name of Gaza Strip).[1][3] Sektor Gaza's first performance as a group occurred at the local rock club on 9 June 1988, but the group's official date of establishment is traditionally given as 5 December 1987, the date of Klinskikh's first solo performance of material from Sektor Gaza's future repertoire at the Voronezh Rock Club.

In 1989, the group recorded the demo tapes Plugi-vugi (Russian: Плуги-вуги, lit. 'Plows-woogie (i.e., pun on "Boogie-woogie")') and Kolkhozny pank (Russian: Колхозный панк, lit. 'Kolkhoz Punk').

In 1990, the group recorded the albums Zloveshchiye Mertvetsy (Russian: Зловещие Мертвецы, lit. 'The Sinister Dead') and Yadryona Vosh (Russian: Ядрёна Вошь, lit. 'Vigorous Louse') in a professional recording studio in Voronezh. Klinskikh sold his motorcycle in order to afford to rent the studio.

In 1991, Sektor Gaza made their television debut, appearing on the programs 50x50 and Programma A (Russian: Программа А) on the Central Television of the USSR. The music video for "Kolkhozny pank" was shown on the youth program Do 16 i starshe... (Russian: До 16 и старше...), contributing to the group's fame across the country. In the same year, the group recorded the album Noch pered Rozhdestvom (Russian: Ночь перед Рождеством, lit. 'The Night Before Christmas') at the Mir studio in Moscow and rerecorded the album Kolkhozny pank at Gala Records.

In 1992, Sektor Gaza released their sixth studio album, Gulyay, muzhik! (Russian: Гуляй, мужик!, lit. 'Have fun, man!') and toured extensively. In 1993, the group released Nazhmi na gaz (Russian: Нажми на газ, lit. 'Hit the gas').

In 1994, Sektor Gaza released Kashchey Bessmertny (Russian: Кащей Бессмертный, lit. 'Kashchey the Immortal'), a punk-opera based on the famous Russian folklore figure. On this album, Klinskikh performed original lyrics to the melodies of songs by groups such as AC/DC, Queen, Ace of Base, and Nirvana.

In 1995, the group performed at the Rock Summer festival in Tallinn.[5] They also toured Germany and Israel and performed at the Gorbunov Palace of Culture. Also in August, the single "Tuman" was released.

In 1996, Sektor Gaza released Gazovaya Ataka (Russian: Газовая Атака), which marked a change in the group's style and a move away from obscene lyrics. The music video for the track "Tuman" (Russian: «Туман», lit. 'Fog') off this album made it into the rotation of many Russian television channels.

In 1997, the group released Narcologichesky Universitet Millionov (Russian: Наркологический Университет Миллионов, lit. 'Narcological University of Millions'). The song "Pora domoy" (Russian: «Пора домой», lit. 'Time to go home') from this album became a hit.

In the summer of 1998, Klinskikh and Aleksey Bryantsev (DJ Krot) arranged some Sektor Gaza songs as techno remixes, which were released on the album Extasy in 1999.

In October 2000, the group released a new album, Vosstavshy iz Ada (Russian: Восставший из Ада, lit. 'Hellraiser'). Klinskikh's health was in decline due to liver disease. On 4 July 2000, Klinskikh complained of strong pains in his stomach and the left side of his chest. He chose not to cancel a meeting later that day to film a music video. He suffered heart failure shortly thereafter. Klinskikh died in Voronezh at the age of 35.

Yuri Nikolayevich Klinskikh (Russian: Юрий Николаевич Клинских; July 27, 1964 – July 4, 2000) was a Russian musician, singer, songwriter, arranger, and founder of the rock band Sektor Gaza. He was also known as Yuri "Khoy".

Biography

From 1982 to 1984, Klinskikh served in the Soviet Army in the Far East. From 1984 to 1986, he worked in the traffic police, and then as a milling-machine operator in a factory. He started writing songs as a hobby in his early school years [citation needed]. He began performing in 1987. In 1988, he founded the band Sektor Gaza.

On July 4, 2000, Klinskikh reportedly felt severe chest and stomach pain, but chose not to cancel a meeting later that day to film a music video for the song "Noch Straha" ("Night of Fear"). He died that day, at the age of 35, in Voronezh. Although it was rumored that he died due to either heart failure or Hepatitis C caused by severe alcohol and possibly drug abuse, the exact cause of his death remains unknown since an official investigation was never carried out. He is buried on the Levoberezhniy cemetery of Voronezh.

I've swapped to the early shift today. Switching from lates to earlies does not give me much time to sleep. Still, things to do tonight - I have a concert at Lakeside Tower.

I actually quite like this time of day. It's quiet and the low sun gives lovely long shadows like this
