This vase is a pyxis: a flat circular box used by women to put away their makeups and jewelry. The lid is remarkable for its handle made with four plastic horses. The animals are modeled by hand and suggest a quadriga.
The choice of the horses is not trivial: it is a very old iconography suggesting the nobility and the wealth of the owner. So this box certainly belonged to a lady of the aristocracy.
This vase dates from the third phase of the geometric style, the Late Geometric period (760-700 BC). The rigorous organization of the decoration emphasizing its circular shape, and the disappearance of black varnished areas in favor of painted decorations, characterize and mark this pixys respect the vases of the Mean Geometric period (850-760 BC).
Hatched petals decorate the lid and the bottom of the vessel, emphasizing its circular shape. The main body is covered with a decorated frieze where the triglyphs alternate to the metopes decorated with deers, swastikas, rosettes, diamonds and checkered patterns.

Miri, like in the old movies ....
Strobist: two bare speedlites on lightstands, one directed to her face, one as rimlight shining through the back window.
Could not decide which version I like better, color (a bit flora-style) or black&white, so I loaded up both of them. ~galllo~ 2011-09-24

The closest building is the Museum of the American Philosophical Society and beyond that is the Supreme Court Chamber in Old City Hall both of which (along with Independence Hall) are built in the Georgian architectural style (as are a lot of colonial buildings). The American Philosophical Society was created by Benjamin Franklin in 1743.
The Supreme Court Chamber was home to the first United States Supreme Court from 1791 to 1800.
ABOUT THE SERIES
In June 2010 Michelle and I traveled to Philadelphia (and surrounding areas) for a summer vacation and to visit her extended family. I'd been to Philadelphia twice before, once in eighth grade and once during college but I only remember bits and pieces of each previous trip. The trip during college was during the 2010 Republican National Convention (I wasn't there for the convention) and I remember the entire city resembling a police state with police everywhere due to all the protests.
Anyway, it was great to return to the city and see some of the surrounding areas I hadn't explored before. We visited during a heatwave (90 degree heat with intense humidity which apparently is a little unusual in June but typical in August) but it was well worth the trip.

... Noir.
While not a huge fan of the actual movies, I love the film noir photography style.
And who doesn't love a dog in a fedora, right?

So this photo was from my adventure last sunday... I thought I would share "my style" while i post this.
I originally got into photography for aviation/plane spotting photography. With little money to buy the desired 100-400 L lens I got more creative with what I had.
Honestly I love taking portraits of stranger/candid/street photography what ever you wanna call it. Im a portrait orientation kind of guy... dont like it sue me :). But to tie all these together I love the b&w effect to almost any photo, I think black and white just brings out the character of a person and the details and stories of each individual. But I also love to add a "splash" of color to my b&w photos to really hone in on the subject and whats important.
I love to edit in photoshop, wish I had cs5, and if you dont see me having a b&w or you'll usually see some type of vintage yellow filter type photo.....
So there is my style.... love it or hate it, thats me! Whats your style???
