AEVP: DEFEAT THE FoRcEs oF CoMMUNALISATION AND CR£MINALISATION .

We see the RSS's student wing the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad as our greatest enemy in the fight against communalisation and privatisation. The ABVP has emerged as the embodiment of the most retrograde tendencies in our campus. The election of three ABVP office bearers in JNUSU in 1996 was followed by incidents of attacks on Dalit students, in-cluding the JNUSU President The same year saw a massive increase in incidents of sexual harassment anc violence against women-the perpetrators in most cases being ABVP activists. In 1999, undeterred by the fitting rebuff that the student community had given them in the previous JNUSU elections the ABVP goons launched a murderous attack on students at-tending an UGBM. The attack was so severe that many of the victims had to be hospitalized. Later six ABifP leaders were expelled for their participation in this a1ack. This academic year too has seen numer-ous instances of ABVP violence against child work-ers fellow students and even other ABVP activists. .

This barbarism is not the only way 1n which ABVP has attacked the JNU student community which is an eyesore for the Sang Giroh because of the spir-ited resistance it has put up to its policies of ~vatisalion .

.

and communalisation. The ABVP has sought to un-.

dermine the democratic decision-making fora of the student community like GBMs, UGBMs and the JNUSU Council through its non-participation. This semester s'C!N the shameful farce of a 'virtual' UGBM in which resolutions in favour of 'Yogic Science' and 'Human Consciousness' were passed. It has sought to undermine the legitimacy ofthe Student Union-the common platform of all students irrespective of political affiliation-ven going to the extent of burning effigies of the JNUSU. The Joint Secretary from the ABVP disappeared after being elected while the President came out of hibernation only to protect fellow members involved in criminal activities. At critical junctures it has sought to divide the student community through it communal propaganda. While they raise slogans against privatisat1on of education in JNU, they want us to conveniently forget that the HRD Minister formu-lating these policies is himself from the RSS and the ABVP has been his staunch allies in implementing these policies-in JNU as well as in other universi-ties-by dividing the student community and acting as the fifth-column of the administration. We believe that defeating theABVP-RSS in our campus is an essen-tial part of our fight against communalisalion and privatisation. .

NSUI: DEFEAT THE VoTARIES oF PRIVATISATION .

In recent years the National Students' Union of India has sought to introduce the opportunistic poli-cies of money and muscle-power which it practices in other universities in our campus too. While it makes a show of being a pro-student organisation in JNU, in other universities like Delhi University where it leads studen s' unions, it has consistently supported anti-student moves like fee-hikes. Also, just like its parent party, the Congress(!), rt refuses to take any clear stand against communalisation in general and communalisation of education in particular. .

AISA: IsoLATE THE INFANTILE ULTRAS .

The AI SA has exposed its ideological bank-ruptcy by failing to take up any students' issues in the recent pastits highly sectarian perspective has seen ittake the most opportunistic positions, even going to the extent of trying to delegitimise democratic bodies like the GSCASH. However, through its ability to spread confusion at critical junctures, it remains ahin-drance to the democratic student movement in our campus. .

The Vice Chancellor.

Jawaharlal Nehru University.

New Delhi-67.

.

Subject- Demands to make campus Disabled Friendly and barrier free.

.

Sir,.

We, the students with disability are facing many pressing infrastructural and administrative barriers in Jawaharlal Nehru University which has aggravated our disability by many.

folds, by hindering our studies and limiting our movement. We had a meeting (Date--) in which a large number of freshers as well as old disabled students participated. Each.

student shared his/her requirement and hurdles which he/she is facing in campus. Some overarching, genuine demands emerged which were agreed and supported by one and.

all..

Some of the demand and requirements on the basis of our meetings and discussions are:.

.

1. Issuing the three wheeler scooties for students with locomotion disability-Because of the great distance between hostels and our centres, movement is.

biggest challenge for wheel chair , crutches and caliper users. We demand the arrangement of few scooties which will be issued to the needy students every.

semester. The student will be responsible for the complete maintenance of the special vehicle and this facility will be only for those who are not getting JRF,.

Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship, the Maulana Azad Fellowship or any other significant scholarship..

.

2. Increment of Reader and Escort allowances-With significant price rising, it has become nearly impossible to get a good reader in the existing reader allowance.

amount. The escort allowance is so low that many a poor students end up spending money in taking helps from their own pockets that the books and other.

important things got reduced to secondary priority..

.

3. Representation of student with disability in every committee like JNUSU, GSCASH and others- Student with disability should get their due representation in.

every committee or body which effect them directly or indirectly..

.

4. Proper maintenance of Helen Keller unit in central library- The condition of Helen Keller Unit is really dilapidated. Except a few, almost all comuters are having.

some or the other problem. This is hampering the studies of visually impaired students..

.

5. Availability of good quality Hindi Joss readers- There is no availability of quality Hindi Joss because of which students who are pursuing their specialization in.

Hindi are facing great difficulties..

.

6. Laptops for all students with disability, irrespective of their disability types or program of study- Like other universities, for instance Delhi University, JNU.

should provide laptops to all the students with disabilities, irrespective of their disability or program of study..

.

7. Availability of reading material for students with visual disability. The availability of reading material is the biggest challenge for students with visual.

disabilities. They have to spend a large amount of time in running here and there to get e-materials or scannable books and articles, which cost a lot of time and.

energy. Teachers should be instructed to keep the limitations and needs of the students with disability in mind.

.

8. Teacher accountability in VH students case- It has been seen that when a student with visual impairment is faring poor in the examination or test because of.

unavailability of reading material, the course instructors does not hesitate to give F grade to him/her though it is their responsibility to ensure the availability of.

study material before assessing a student..

.

9. E-format of the books and Journals-It should be ensured that the e-format books and journals are provided to the students whenever it is possible..

10. Camp for issuing Disability certificates in new format-Most of the students are having the decades old disability certificates which have become completely out.

.

of use. There should be a camp in JNU to provide the latest format disability certificates as soon as possible..

11. Braille tiles-In the absence of any sign and indicators, the Visually disable students keep bumping from one wall to other poll. There should be braille tiles at least.

.

at our centers, library and bus stops..

12. Accessible News paper and Magazine stands. There should be provision of a low newspaper stand at library and hostels which can cater to the need of.

.

wheelchair users and students with stunted height..

13. Separate notices of important events, changes and scholarships to students with disabilities- The student with disabilities, especially with visual disability.

.

are always remain unaware of the the important notices around, especially in our School. There should be instruction to all Schools to tell the exam dates, new.

scholarship or the seminar organized by the center via messages on regular basis..

14. Accessible ramp and corrections of inaccessible ones- Though there are ramps but some of the ramps like in Periyar hostel are very inaccessible. There.

should be a drive to make new accessible rams all over the campus and to correct the one which are not properly constructed..

15. Provision of Room cleaning at least twice a week- The student with disability are usually unable to do brooming and floor mopping. Their rooms should be.

cleaned at least twice a week..

16. Separate rooms for students with visual disability-The student with visual disability study with the help of talking software Joss but usually their room mates.

object to the studies and force them to use ear phone all the time. So the student with visual disability should be given separate room, irrespective of their.

program of study..

.

We, request you to look into the matter as soon as possible and ensure a barrier free campus for the students with disability. We hope for the war footing actions on our genuine.

demands..

.

Thanking You.

A small pouch I made over the weekend for my study materials. I did not really follow any pattern. Kind of winged it, but I am not the best at sewing so it has some mistakes. As long as it is functional I am happy.

used this while studying for the series 7 exam. it didn't really help. i didn't use the cd rom and the practice exams kind of sucked. actually, to be fair. it helped to at least read and understand it. plus it does help you focus on some of the key basics that you need to know. the best thing i did though was concentrate on options and municipals from my study material.

this book just helped solidify what i'd learned and clear some other stuff up for me.

The Brigada de Salud Comunitaria 43 is a grassroots community health organizing effort based in the municipality of Tixtla in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. We came together in 2014 and since then have been organizing community based health brigades as well as training local community members as health constructors so that they can diagnose, treat and prevent the most common illnesses that are found in their region. As part of this work, about two years ago we also started running advanced first aid training courses for community members and organizers. After the first few courses we realized that it was necessary to put together all the knowledge and skills shared during the training in accessible didactic material so that community members who have taken the training or will in the future can have good quality study material that is adapted to their day to day reality. This is when we started working on our First Aid Manual for Community Paramedics. We believe it is not only a basic right but also fundamental to community health that we all recover knowledge and skills in the area of health as a basic pillar of autonomy. The Pollination Project grand funds will make it possible for us to completely cover the printing costs for 1000 copies of the Manual in order to distribute in different areas of the state of Guerrero where the courses have been and will be carried out as well as to other grassroots organizations and organizers to whom it can be of use.
