This hedge is 50-ish years old and protects the house from a busy corner of hwy 240 at the edge of Newberg. The blooming part is Ligustrum japonicum, wax leaf privet, I think. The non-blooming part with alternate leaves, I’m unsure of. It was fully sheared a few days after I took these photos.
Apartment hedge from the end, showing depth of plants.

Sooooo I'm taking the GRE on Sunday morning. Maybe I'll go to grad school, maybe I won't. First step in my mind is to take this silly test that allegedly assesses my intelligence and predicts my performance at an institute of higher learning based on an ability to correctly determine the length of an arc in a circle or accurately describe the author's intent in a passage about Virginia Woolf.

These were planted as a screening row at the property line. In time drought and the natural decline of lower branches has left an eyesore and expensive removals as trees die.

About 10-12 years in the ground. Spacing looks tight.

With homage to lilacwhispers, I tried to add a little more interest to the VII-77 picture. Hmm. I should have changed the Deg to Rad, as in Radical, not Radians. It would have been interesting to see if anyone noticed or cared.
So I need more practice doing object still lifes. Maybe there will be less pressure next time. :-)
Green Design
Wage and I are studying for the LEED - New Construction examination. We understand that in order to design good buildings we must take into consideration the impacts buildings have on our fragile environment. A typical commercial project in the US, generates up to 2.5 pounds of solid waste per square foot of completed floor space! Imagine how much waste is generate for building a shopping mall! In addition to waste, the entire process of a new construction creates everlasting damage to our environment and eco-system from pollution, land contanimation, energy-consumption, and so on. Luckily, many professionals in the construction industry are banding together to devise methods to build more efficiently and responsibly. Wish us luck on our exam....passing rate is like 34%! @_@
And yes, Wage and I are extremely aware how far behind we are on our posting for Project Earth 365. It is almost the end of 2008, and we are only on Day 247! Please accept our apologies! We only want to post the best info for you all so we will extend this to 2009. Oh, and Wage reminded me that we created Project Earth 365....so we can change the rules anyway we want! :D
