Winter is providing a rare combination of about 2 feet of snow, and temperatures remaining below freezing now for about a week with extremes of 1 degree F

Thus, Icicles grow and stick to the roof for awhile, allowing close up studies.

And the patterns are very similar

Relatively speaking this is one of my older designs but it is part of a longer facial study series I'm still working on.

I used this little monster as reference for the head. (The photograph was taken by the talented Lucy Hermsen.)

Wet-Folded from a square of 20 x 20 handmade paper by the outstanding paper makers John and Jeannette.

Designed and folded by me.

No glue no cuts.

Been making 1/6 scale books! made about 300!

When people ask me what I am doing today, I say "studying." Little do they know what my "studying" is.

I edited this sometime between 12-5am today. Was bored, wide awake, feeling creative, tried some new editing techniques.

Had a great time this day, got tons of awesome photos.

Oh my, it's Monday already, 2 more exams this Friday and I'm free! Took this during my study break today, nothing special just a longer exposure in my room with all the lights off. Isn't my wallpaper nice and festive? Anyhow, back to studying! ;D

Need to expose at ISO 25 with this funny contraption. The light loss is quite considerable. Or closer to ISO 50 at infinity.

This was a sixth lone chair I spotted today at Scotney Castle. But, it doesn't count as part of my lone chair project, as this is a comfy chair, and all the others are not so comfy.

Success does not come to those who wait and it does not wait for anyone to come to it... it's a journey, not a destination.

This is the library at the London School of Economics. It's an amazing space for learning right in the heart of London and well worth a visit.

Many thanks to Clare Carrier for the tip-off about the location.

not sure where this fits

"comfort zone?" "bit and pieces?"

self assignment

I took these 3 images less than an hour apart during a sunset in Iceland. I put them together to show how the scene changes dramatically with the light.

First image has the warm golden sunset light coming from behind me. During the second image, sun is just below the horizon but still hitting the top of the clouds giving them a lovely pink colour. This is what is known as civil twilight. By the 3rd image, sun is well below the horizon and the landscape feels much colder under blue hues. This is roughly the end of civil twilight and beginning of nautical twilight.

This started as a color study but it went nowhere. I have been surrounded by palmetto for months and I have begun to ponder palmetto art or crafts; palmetto as a raw material. More to follow.

Dramatic minimalist nude study

Here's something a bit different. I don't usually do flower studies (apart from occasional wild flowers). However my wife had been given a bouquet and I was at a loose end, so here is a closeup of one of the flowers. I have no idea what it is but the colours are attractive.

Clockwise from top: ESA’s Matthias Maurer, Lina Tomelleri, Giorgio Tomelleri, Anna Maria Fioretti from the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources (IGG), an institute of National Research Council of Italy, and ESA astronauts Pedro Duque and Luca Parmitano.

The group are posing with meteorites during the Pangaea course that is teaching astronauts how to identify interesting rock samples, as well as assess the most likely places to find traces of life on other planets.

The group are now in Bressanone, Italy, learning the theory of how planets formed, followed by field trips to apply their knowledge.

The course is organised together with the Centre of Studies and Activities for Space at the University of Padova, Italy.

Follow the course on Twitter via @ESA_CAVES or with hashtag #Pangaea, on Flickr and on the blog .

The second part of the course will start in October on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain.
