Working my way through a book about automatons for a class that the Design Lab is hosting in the next few weeks at school. One of the first tasks the student will have is to make a cam that moves a lever, like this. It took most of an hour for the adult, but we'll see if they're faster or slower.

Study room- this is the sketch of my university study room made of glass, the stair case is shown in the background. On the left hand side, there are model displays of architecture students and office door. Pencils used- 3B and 6B, paper- A3 90 lb.
I spent at least 15 minutes looking at the way the light was hitting the piston. This was when I decided the shadows and light spots balanced each other. I might be totally wrong. I guess that's the point of having a study ;-)

Images of Bondi birds taken a few years ago and treated in Nik Silver. Blue becomes black, birds become frozen statues, ephemeral moments.
I've been studying rock and other natural surfaces for a long time. I try to produce a "random" style in my shapes and their surfaces, and this series seems to show that I've accomplished what I'm after. The "beauty" of these pieces is perhaps up to debate, but I think at least I've accomplished an effect that transcends the human touch. There is little evidence here of "my" work or my imposition of form or surface on the natural ingredients.
So I was tired and I had some bits of clay with Robinia pseudoacacia leaves impregnated in them. I almost blindly rolled these out with the rolling pin and with just my fingertips rolled and pressed them together. This piece is about 5 inched across and is a wonderful centerpiece for twigs, dried leaves, holly, or something big and light like a dried Hydrangea inflorescence.
