Shawn would have been about 8 years old in this photo. It was a studio shot, taken by an Olan Mills photographer. I was never really pleased with the shots that were taken that day. They were too blown out looking and made both of us look somewhat yellow. Shawn tended to be a little more sallow than I did back then, and they really made him look like a ghoul!

For this edit, I first removed as much of the yellow tones as I could. Then I used an advanced HDR-like filter on it to bring up as much detail as I could. From there, it took hand removal of pixelation and noise, and and hand coloring to change the skin tones and eyes. The wrinkle remover tool is very good for the skin, but tends to make white tones go very dark grey, so rather than use that on the teeth, I first used the lightest cream tone in blush on the teeth and whites of the eyes, and then hit it with tooth whiten to remove THAT tone! It was a very involved edit, but I was pretty pleased with the result. The colors weren't exact, but they were a lot better than the original, especially after years of fading and more yellowing.

My 3d interpretation of the Ray sofa designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia.

Want to know what it takes to get to this? 100 shots, messing with lights, exposure, positioning, shine, reflection, the whole thing. All of this for ONE shot, ONE pic that rocks. Each of these items came off the shelf of a local Kroger store. Each will be used, no food is wasted.

My friend Sam and her new baby girl, Noa. I liked the juxtaposition of their two expressions. :)

Strobist: Alien Bee 320 w/s @ 1/16 power (didn't want to flash baby's eyeballs with high power) with medium Chimera softbox above camera and at 45 degrees + 1 snooted AB @ 1/8 power 90 degrees to left to act as a soft hair light.
