This shot was taken with Canon 60D + macro extension tubes + 17-85mm or 10-18 reverse mounted.
The light in background is from multiple lightbulbs and main light from one Youngnuo YN 685 flash triggerd off camera.

Well, here is a 'studio' comparison between the new Fuji X10 and the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds GH2 at ISO 1600. I set both to JPG, same manual exposure and fired my Canon 430EX flash bounced at 1/64 power. I didn't play around with exposure, or try to use the Panasonic RAW and tweak things. I know from experience that I can get more out of the Panasonic that this in RAW - but that isn't really the point. The point is that the FUJI, with a much smaller sensor, does an admirable job.
The funny part is that I was initially comparing the two and found the Panasonic to be the clear winner - until I noticed Lightroom has the files out of order and I was looking at the Panasonic shot at ISO 400 :)
My findings:
1. The Fuji X10 is very usable at higher ISOs, and to me, may render my MFT system useless. It isn't that MFT doesn't have advantages, but the main thing it is missing is a fast zoom that is pocketable. To me that is the downfall of both MFT and the NEX and other mirrorless cams. They are more capable than the Fuji with a nice prime - but then you are either carrying lenses or compromising on focal length range.
2. The Fuji and Panny were both set to f/5.6 - which give the Panny less depth of field. But still - with my kit zoom (14-140mm on the GH2) the lens just doesn't deliver sharpness at the edges. The Fuji looks better, therefore, away from the center.
3. Both had problems rendering the fabric at high ISO. To be expected I guess - but the GH2's higher resolution didn't really help it at all.
4. I find the Fuji JPGs to have more pleasing color. Again, can tweak in RAW but out of the box the Fuji really delivers.
5. The Fuji has two stops more light gathering capability. If you are light limited you should really compare the Fuji at ISO 400 with the Panny at ISO 1600. I did just that and I'd take the Fuji any day.

Also had a G12 capture in there - I don't own the X10 and a G12 so I can't do a direct comparison, but so far my feeling is that I'm getting better results from the X10.
Feel free to ask questions, but I don't plan to do a million tests :) If you want to see how the Fuji handles a specific situation feel free to ask.
OH - I downsized the GH2 in photoshop to match resolution, which should help the GH2. I didn't find it affected the comparison between them.
Exposure wise they were both a little clipped on the high end, so I didn't bother trying to raise the exposure. In any case they are taken in the same situation :) I didn't edit the JPGs other than to combine them and re-saved at highest quality.
My guess is that if you are considering an X10, this will impress you, if you are a MFT fan you'll have reasons to doubt my technique :) I have no doubt that if I reshot with the 20mm pancake it would do better, as per my blog...but my beef with MFT is that I have to carry a lot of lenses to match what the Fuji has in a compact package. And includes macro to boot !

This is one my my favourite shots of the latest session. I tried for the first time to play with the water drops and quite enjoy the result. I had the Lastolite Umbrella box perpendicular to the table and the orbis ring flash on the background giving just a bit of fill light to the back of the jigs. Both SB800 have been triggered with Nikon CLS
A friend is one who finds you; who gets to you despite whoever you are as a person. Someone who constantly puts you on the path of evolving as a better self. This most beautiful friend who reaches you despite whoever you are is your daughter. Even more beautiful is the fact that she does it all without really being conscious of it.
