A first attempt at a “studio” portrait. Have been experimenting a bit with a “studio” lighting setup, consisting of nothing more than one off-camera flash (with a small softbox) and a black piece of cloth (fleece) as a background. I was after this moody, sparsely lit portrait look (it’s that time of the year after all 😉). Luckily, my daughter had a very short “moody” moment after having given me lots of funny faces... Processed the RAW file in Capture One, trying to acquire moderate contrast, subtle toning, and a bit of fade in the shadows. Any comments, tips, or tricks?

i'm a full-time illustration student in brooklyn, and i enjoy an active social life. when i was looking for a studio, it had to accommodate work areas for digital, wet, and dry media. it also had to have room to entertain and sleep, and be close to civilization. i found a live/work loftshare in williamsburg, which is ideally located atop of the G train to school and the L train into lower manhattan. at 14'x14' with 10' ceilings, the space is just under 200 sq.ft., and is divided almost equally in half between my live and work areas. i've spared you the view of the "wardrobe/books/dvd storage" part of the room.
De AVRO-studio is het gebouwencomplex aan de 's-Gravelandseweg in Hilversum waarin tot 2000 de radio- en tv-studio's en het hoofdkantoor van de Nederlandse omroepvereniging AVRO waren gevestigd. De studiogebouwen zijn ontworpen door de architecten Ben Merkelbach en Charles Karsten; Studio 1 uit 1936 (met poortgebouw uit 1940) en Studio 2 uit 1940 zijn sinds 2002 beschermd als rijksmonument. In Studio 1 bevond zich het AVRO-concertorgel dat enkele decennia lang bespeeld werd door Pierre Palla. Het orgel is bij een verbouwing na 2000 verwijderd. De onderdelen werden opgeslagen zodat het opnieuw opgebouwd kan worden. Het vond na vele jaren opslag een plaats in Studio 1 van het Muziekcentrum voor de Omroep, de voormalige VARA-studio, waar vanaf het begin al een plek was ingeruimd voor het Radio Concertorgel, dat er nooit geplaatst is. Het AVRO-Concertorgel werd, na vele tegenslagen, uiteindelijk gerestaureerd, uitgebreid en gemoderniseerd in gebruik genomen in december 2019 onder de naam 'Pierre Palla-concertorgel'.
In het jaar 2000 betrok de AVRO met KRO en NCRV, in kader van het samenwerkingsverband AKN een nieuw pand, het AKN-gebouw, verderop aan de 's-Gravelandseweg. Sinds dat jaar zijn in de oude AVRO-gebouwen kantoren van andere organisaties gevestigd.

This species is not as colorful as some of its close relatives but it's beautifully shaped and I'm always pleased to find it. Funny how some species becomes "favorites" despite the fact that you can't put your finger on exactly what makes them special... In this case there might simply be some pavlovian explanation behind it – these guys show up my favorite time of year (June) when everything is pleasant: sun is shining, birds are singing and everything is growing, breeding, living...

The former Gold Leaf Studio near 5th and I Streets in the Mount Vernon Triangle is now the subject of debate regarding the site's future development. While the building itself isn't terribly special, it would be more interesting to include it into whatever condo block the developers have in mind for the site.

Studio 26, assignment on To Frame or Not to Frame---
During this assignment period, I found myself thinking that almost every shot I took could benefit from a frame, Also I found myself most often drawn to simple, subtle frames, like this one, which is Ribbet's mirror effect, made very narrow, with an increase in the amount of shadow for the inner edge.
I chose this one as my final image for the way the softness of the edge suits the softness of Po's bright-eyed gaze. Po, who is quite oblivious to the waiting for a definitive diagnosis, & also to the continued waiting for her surgical incision to heal -- except that she would ever so much like to be allowed to go swimming----
What better place for a photographic studio? Set in tranquil surrounds, with air conditioning, overlooking a small lake in the Australian bushland. I am sure the lawned area will be a popular place for some of her outside work.
I had an interesting conversation with the owner, who was very excited about moving into the studio that day.
Studio 26 assignment, It's a Wild World. Assignment was to photograph wildlife and a form of wildlife that you don't normally shoot (which means birds were off limits for me - it's about stretching yourself.) I can't say I shot a lot for this assignment and nothing else I shot was in acceptable focus, so this ground squirrel at Boyce Thompson Arboretum iis my submission. Cute guy

Finally finished my studio. So much inspiration from the room came from flickr. I come in here and just stare, it makes me so happy to be in it! This was my youngest babies room, its very small, but once I got it back (hes sharing with his brother) I couldnt wait to decorate! Ive placed notes on different things around the room.
The studio and the entrance new billy (since i bought something with defect and after much strugle had to take apart and pack all to take it back) was the reason i have been pretty much dissapeared these days.
The studio was unuseful so i had to get new table, new ikea billy and tidy up everything so everything could be near and make it a comfy place to work, but i am DONE! i am sooo happy! YAY!!
I could not take anymore my living room being a mess everytime i had to work. I mean, everytime.
All on my own! YAY FOR ME! :D
La entrada y el estudio son las razones por las que he estado desaparecida de la vida estos dias. Para la entrada pille un mueble defectuoso y lo tuve que desmontar y empaquetar, llevarlo y pillar esto. El estudio estaba inservible, asi que he tenido que comprar la mesa, un mueble (mas este mueble de la entrada) y montarlo, ordenarlo y acomodar todo para tener todo a mano por fin y que mi salon no parezca un vertedero de muñecas cada vez que tenia que trabajar. O sea, siempre.
Que contenta estoyyyyy!!!!! molida, pero muy feliz! :D

We don't like them in our gardens.
AND YET: The dandelion plant is a beneficial weed, with a wide range of uses, and is even a good companion plant for gardening.
Its taproot will bring up nutrients for shallower-rooting plants, and add minerals and nitrogen to soil.
It is also known to attract pollinating insects and release ethylene gas which helps fruit to ripen.
Taraxacum seeds are an important food source for certain birds

Look, it is not all plain sailing, what YOU get is the final result after hours spent 'perfecting' the image.
Mistakes are made, things go wrong, with the props, the set-up.
Reflectors fall over as do flowers, or the whole thing shifts, haha.
It is a matter of keeping calm or seeing the fun in what happened, like this here!

A studio portrait or perhaps more accurately a studio headshot. But a headshot with a lovely feeling.
