Maquette created using origami cubes to explore volume and structure. Beginning by experimenting with cubes, the idea evolved as I played with different configurations and decided upon a triangular structure. The addition of a nonagon (made up of 3 equilateral triangles) came after I realized the structure had nine central points. The finished outcome has the potential to inspire an immersive interactive experience.
Materials: Origami paper, toothpicks, bootlace crimps, card.
The structure meets ADA requirements with an 8 percent grade to the top and 5' x 5' landings every 30 feet along the way. The top balcony is raised 15 feet above water level on the small pond, and 25 feet above the water level of the lake beyond. There are three exits from the arched walkway, each leading to a greenway trail along the waters edge.
