OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was heading for the car when I saw this guy fly up into the tree. It was getting late, so I took a bunch of shots at ISO 1600, handheld. He allowed me to get pretty close, so I tried going to my (nearby, luckily) car to get my tripod. As you can see by the next two shots in the comment section, he hung around for that, although he moved to different perches. Right after the horizontal shot he took off and flew straight toward me! Of course I had no time to move the camera before he landed practically at my feet, snatched up something to eat, and flew back to the perch in the last shot. He landed facing away from me so I couldn't get a good look at what he found.

I was able to retrieve the SD Card from my Tawny Owl Nest Box Trail Cam during voluntary work for the conservation group in Nidderdale and have more footage from the nest box.

It was a rainy night with no sign of a mate yet so clearly "too-wet-too-woo!

This was a very difficult lighting situation and I did my best to edit it to look as I seen it with my eyes. In order to keep the BG from being blown out I exposed for the BG but I had some harsh shadow recovery. The original exposure is posted below to give you an idea how hard it was. Only some minor cloning in the upper left to remove 2 hotspots.

Welcome to the Incanto, a mesmerizing oasis nestled on the serene shores of a pristine lake, where the magic of twilight transforms the landscape into a wonderland of beauty and tranquility. As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky becomes a canvas painted with hues of pink, orange, and deep indigo, casting a spell over all who gather. Here, under the enchanting sky, friends and strangers alike come together to share in the joy of the moment. With the gentle lapping of water as a backdrop, the air fills with the melody of music that stirs the soul and invites everyone to dance. Drinks in hand, laughter and company flow freely, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that lingers in the heart long after the night has ended. Welcome to a place where time seems to pause, and every moment is a celebration of life and connection.

This is a rescue bird from the Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab & Education group. He was at Birdfest on 5-13-12, with 3 of his friends. He is a beauty. Baby owl tries to groom mama owl. But she seems annoyed when it snatches at her wing feathers. (28 Jul 2017 morning)

This shot and the 2 below were taken with my 50d and 100mm macro. These shots were at 1250 ISO f2.8 and a low shutter speed. They didn't turn out to bad but not as nice as my 7d and 300mm 2.8L. I haven't used my 100mm macro before for flight shots so just gave it a try. From now on I take 2 cameras when shooting Owls, I missed a shot of the century because I had to much focal length with my 300mm and couldn't back up because of a steep hill behind me and by the time I switched lenses it was to late.

Sein englischer Name ist Great Grey Owl, also Große Graueule. Er ist die größte Art der Gattung Strix und die einzige mit holarktischem Verbreitungsgebiet. Auch innerhalb der Familie Strigidae gehört der Bartkauz zu den größten, nicht aber zu den schwersten Arten.
