Though this looks visually interesting, it's amazing how this is still "bleeding" iron and acid rock after being closed down in the 1950's. Forunately, the area is being Greened with tree's being planted, and pools of lime to neutralize the acid.
The Formosan rock macaques (Macaca cyclopsis) that live in Shoushan National Nature Park are fully habituated to people and are even considered a pest, stealing objects from hikers and ranging out into the local neighbourhoods to look for food. Now, in winter, with the mountain foliage denuded, it's easy to get up close and take photos of them searching for titbits and even stripping bark to eat. At all times, although they seemed relaxed at my presence, they remained very watchful of my pet dog and continued to squabble amongst themselves.
So weird seeing our bathroom back to brick. There's damp on the right hand side of the wall under the window. Nothing major.
You can see how much the sand dropped on the right hand side. This resulted in the floor cracking in half and we needed to renovate sooner rather than later.
One of the batteries in the southeast bastion of Fort Warren. The openings at the far end allow musket fire into the ditch or moat outside. On the floor you can see the curves of traverse rails for the cannon which faced out to sea

Cullen Murphy - Cartoon County: My Father and His Friends in the Golden Age of Make-Believe
Murphy, editor at large at Vanity Fair and the author of books including God’s Jury, grew up in the middle of a thriving community of illustrators and cartoonists in southwestern Connecticut. His father, John Cullen Murphy (1919-2004), who had been a student of Norman Rockwell’s, drew the popular comic strips Prince Valiant and Big Ben Bolt. Their neighbors were the artists responsible for classic comics ranging from Beetle Bailey to Hi and Lois to Family Circus. Murphy’s memoir pays tribute to these many creative individuals and warmly evokes the spirit of a bygone era.
A lot of "urban renewal" / sorta.. gentrification..? going on in the Strip District in Pittsburgh... this building hasn't been fixed up yet.
I'm not from Pittsburgh but I live an hour away and have been there maybe a hundred times. I probably don't have room to talk, but I'm not sure if I like what's going on in the strip? Please don't ruin it okay? It's gritty weirdness is what makes it great so don't like... make it Disneyworld.
the first of two pink painted chairs. this one is the rocker which i took completely apart. the red and brown cushions have nothing to do with it, they are from the porch furniture, but it was raining earlier and this is where they landed.
the green cushions will have new covers in black.
i hope to have them all back together by then end of next week. there is still so much more to do on both.
