Mamer, Fête de la Musique - Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo (FRA/ESP)

The original "Gipsy Kings" band split up in 2014:

- "Gipsy Kings by Nicolas Reyes", led by Nicolas Reyes, the original lead singer, with Tonino Baliardo on guitar.

- "André Reyes ft. Gipsy Kings", led André Reyes (Nicolas' brother), this band also includes members of his family.

- "Gipsy Kings & Chico", led by Chico Bouchikhi, a former member of the original group. However, this group lost the right to use the name “Gipsy Kings”.

- "Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo", led by Diego Baliardo.

- "The Gipsy Kings ft. Tonino Baliardo", led by Tonino Baliardo.

Each of these groups claims a part of the Gipsy Kings' musical heritage, offering a diversity of performances and interpretations that continue to attract large audiences around the world.

Bass Guitar: Ernie Rail. Music Man StingRay 5 (Trans Red). With chrome hardware. [5 string]

First introduced in 1976, the StingRay has been revered as one of the most iconic bass guitars in history.

The first bass designed by Ernie Ball Music Man, the Stingray 5 was unveiled in 1987 and has been an industry standard for extended range basses ever since. With its powerful punchy sound, the added flexibility of additional pickups and a comfortably contoured body the StingRay5 satisfies even the most demanding of players. They are not made like this anymore sadly.

Any bass player worth their salt played a Fender Precision. Since 1951 the P-Bass has been the most popular bass in Rock, Country, Jazz and everything in between. Heavy as a boat anchor but plays like a dream. When Pam isn't home you can find me in my little studio rattling the windows. Such a blast to play.

This is the last of my 4 guitar/4 camera series. Its been fun.

And the Music theme of the week continues.

The violin that I wrote about a few days back when I posted the photo of the bow and sheet music. I love all the curves, the warm color of the wood....

This makes two days in a row that I went with a shot for the day that was done shooting manual. I may get the hang of this yet!

It was a wonderful experience to be serenaded by Filipino local performers as they sang native songs while on a stopover during the Loboc river cruise.

A ukulele playing Minion. How cool is that? (Gift from my 14-year-old.)

Not much else to say about this. I like the silhouette (can you call this a silhouette?). I would like to have a series of pictures of silhouetted musicians. There are two pictures I can think of, in recent years, that I sadly missed. One was another silhouette, in Central Park, of a violinist in a Gothic archway at night. It was quite beautiful. But I wasn't quick enough. And another wasn't a silhouette, but a cellist on the beach in Jamaica, playing a very weathered looking cello for some people on the beach. Another beautiful shot. But it started to rain, very suddenly, and copiously. So, the moment was lost. Oh well.... I shall continue to keep my eyes open for these opportunities.

But I will say this: Bethesda Terrace NEVER disappoints when it comes to impromptu busker performances. I have had some magical moments there. The acoustics are pretty spectacular. I have found that the people who perform in Central Park are often professional musicians who choose to practice in that public venue, for inspiration, both in environment, and the financial kind. But they're not your average buskers. They are truly passionate. Music is their whole life.

Bluegrass and bourbon

A bluegrass player picks and plucks to some mighty fine music. Man, oh man, his fingers sure can fly, and those strings sure can palpitate. It was all for our county's Ham Days to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of Autumn.

The sign in the back, Maker's Mark, is our local bourbon distillery.

Got to stop by Gallery X in New Bedford to check out my friend's band, Pumpkin Head Ted. They were playing at the annual Gallery X "Public Xhibition".

Oh, how I love this fiddle.

It's been 4 months since I first started this journey. It's been so fun so far, and next weekend I will do my first recital.

The mystic musician played one of the sweetest tunes I have ever heard on a two string Instrument.

Very popular in the 70's and 80's the Ovation is unique with their rounded turtle back body. I don't play this guitar much anymore but still fun to pick at.
