Lake String Quartet by Greg L. Jones

A string quartet plays in the sunroom at the Lake Hotel on the shores of Lake Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Such events are common during the height of summer in the oldest ‘in use’ hotel in the US National Park System. Built in 1891 by the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, it resembled many of the other Hotels built by the Railroad and was not memorable. But that changed in 1903 when architect Robert Reamer was hired to renovate the Hotel. He added he Iconic columns; extended the roof in 3 places; added the 15 false balconies and made other changes. Because of these changes, for years the Hotel was known as the Lake Colonial Hotel. Reamer also designed the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone which opened in 1904.

Further additions were made to the Lake Hotel in the following years A dining room, portico, sunroom, and further interior upgrades were made until 1929 when the Hotel finally took its current impressive form. It is a fun place to visit and good place to view the lake.

 

The Hotel has been designated a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register if Historic Places.

I struggled this week, I could not make any of my string collection behave and found it impossible to make a composition that pleased me. Then I spotted this candle with a perfectly poised piece of string, that didn't move out of place. But please excuse the dust - I was sure I had cleaned it properly, the camera shows that was not the case.
