My old friend, doing his morning exercises. He has a mate with him now, but she is much too shy to sit out in the light.

This eagle gave me a great underwing display as it circled looking for fish on the ice. It was a good year for eagles. Now with the ice gone so are the they.

Lying down on the ground and watching the sunrise

I hadn't been down to the beach for what seemed ages, so despite a. cold , a twinge in the back, and a not wonderful forecast the pull was too strong. A greyness came over the sky so I wandered up to the strand line to look for some inspirational driftwood. I spotted this really really long piece of Ash tree and knew if I could lift it I had to use it. I could just about lift it enough to pull it down the pebble beach and across the sand. I originally thought I could balance it vertically , but my first try brought it home to me I wasn't strong enough as it weighed so much. Plan B involved balancing it on another piece, and the next visit gave up a large Ash fork, perfect. I could only get it six inches into the wet sand so it wasn't at all solid, but with lots of adjustments I managed to get the whole thing to balance. A few more visits to the strand line and it had evolved into a the sort of skeleton you find in Natural History museums. Every addition tilted the balance and had to be balanced with an addition on the opposite side to prevent collapse. It was the biggest , heaviest, longest and most precarious construction I'd made, and after the wind and rain got up so the creature wriggled free and returned to the sea. Stretch always said he got his height from his dad’s side of the family. He was always the first one picked at family reunion basketball games. ……. #CrazyTuesday #silverware #cutlery

I'm back on the Moray Firth now after 7 weeks away from the sea. The weather is also now very interesting so I felt I should stretch my photography legs and get back down to Fara's beach to get some images of the waves rolling over the rocks. I have photographed this spot many times but I always enjoy spending time here whilst watching the waves come crashing in. Got for the heart, mind and soul. This is Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland.

one lone piping plover and how i wished he'd come closer. So i decided to make my move and slowly move forward, taking my time so not to scare him away. I was adjusting my tripod as i was sitting in the water, and i must have flushed him as i couldn't see him any where. Surprise, believe me, he was too close, right in front of me! For the next half hour he scooted back and forth and when i moved on, he followed!
