As Trevor and I were coming home from errands today, we noticed a tiny kitten hiding under a car outside of our apartment. We had seen the kitten before, and this time called out toward it. The kitten came running up to us, and immediately started purring. We took it to the vet for some shots, tests, and treatments, and then introduced her as our new baby to Lucio and Dario. She is still un-named.
These bigger strays were much healthier than the small ones, and their mother was very protective. But after some feeding and me sitting very still, their mother allowed them to come out and play.
There were not as many as we had feared on the Algarve, and those we did see (like the two above) didn't seem too under-nourished.
This is a stray cat that comes around now and then and I'll feed him as long as he stays around. Then just as soon as he appears he disappears and I won't see him for weeks or months.
Actually, the mother cat was the stray who abandoned this young kitten in my workshop a little while back. I realized that when I heard it crying for help and finally found it, near starved. It's healthy now and full of fun.
This fellow looks like a native Taiwanese dog but who knows what his background really is.
Near our apartment there's a large pack of dogs that claim the vacant lot and the shady places under the parked cars on the street. Several of my neighbors put scraps and leftovers out for them.
But this guy spends his time alone in a patch of dirt and weeds behind the Honda agency on the side of the building away from the big doggie pack (and near our trash cans). I took him a few bits of leftover cat food and once he started to come over whenever he saw me I was hooked ino taking him a bowl of food when I took out the trash. As you can see he gets real dog food now.
