BDT Strategy Jam

On 30 August 2013, a "BDT Strategy Jam" was organized to give BDT professionals an opportunity to brainstorm on an innovation challenge "How might we change the value proposition of BDT and make it more relevant and impactful?". Structured using Design Thinking methodologies, the event gave attendees an opportunity to brainstorm on an evolving environment in which ICTs have a growing influence on many sectors of society and business involving many new actors. Participants were organized into teams who each gave their inputs on the needs of the current and future ITU membership and built prototypes of their proposed new BDT organizational concepts that will be used as input into the new ITU strategic plan.

Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses. Adam‘s hard work and creativity helped him land this job of a lifetime. He obtained incredible business experience there and spent years innovating, improving processes and setting sales records. Although this dream job in Traditional Corporate America was a fun challenge for him, and something he truly enjoyed mastering, Adam’s natural entrepreneurial spirit kept nudging him to do something more significant with his time and talents.

 

Since 2001, Adam has been involved in the Health and Wellness Industry as a successful Entrepreneur, Broker, Product Developer and Manufacturer of Cosmeceutical products. During his career, he has worked with some of the most recognizable Fortune 500 businesses along with many top international Network Marketing companies. Adam has consistently proven his unique ability to help his clients achieve their goals through creative Distribution-Channel Placement, innovative Product Development and custom Manufacturing. Adam currently owns three profitable businesses.

 

Admittedly, Adam was not initially a fan of Network Marketing. He did not understand the business model because it was new to him. However, once he learned that the REAL focus of Direct Sales is to help average people get a taste of entrepreneurialism --- with minimal risk and at a low cost --- Adam was absolutely convinced of the potential with Multi-Level Marketing.

 

Since joining the company as one of the original 11 founding distributors, Adam has discovered that many of his life-goals truly do align perfectly with Network Marketing. Even a pup who hasn't yet mastered the sport of sled pulling knows all about kibbles.

 

So this fellow was delighted when his humans led him down the course by hand-feeding him kibbles every few feet.

 

Alas, the strategy came apart spectacularly when one of the kibbles fell to the ground just feet from the finish line. With that, the pup found it necessary to stop, look at the kibble and ponder his next move. In the meantime, the clock kept running . . .

 

Ah, puppies! Well, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how much fun you and the spectators have during the race. By that standard, this pup was a winner!

Mindless copying of sentences is not fun with handwriting. Nonetheless, to my amazement, it seems as though many primary schools in Hong Kong coerce their students into completing these cognition-effacing exercises.

  

If the objective of this book is to teach students to write letters, then logically, so long as a student can accurately reproduce each individual letter, there is no point in having them copy bunches of letters - words - within even greater bunches of letters - sentences - complete with capital letters and punctuation; so there must be another reason; and that students at this tender primary age must begin, sooner rather than later, the tedious rote learning process involving mindless copying and pedagogical dubiousness endemic to Hong Kong is my conjecture.

  

It's a shame that most Hong Kong primary school students aren't learning spelling strategies in English lessons - this is a Scholastic Book from the US - and instead are treated to beguiling calligraphy activities which treat English words as though they were Chinese pictograms, this whole-language English literacy approach being the absolute worst way to build a literacy base in a human being!

  

The transfer and multiplication of financial wealth, amongst the captains of educational publishing and the lieutenants of the education bureau, is not a conspiracy theory but a harmful, if not shameful, truth, a boy's father told me. He and his son both hate the skull-numbing reproduction of the Roman alphabet whose pedagogical value has yet to be substantiated by anyone!
