Stranger portrait - Chad (vintage manual focus lens).
Chad was sitting in Calgary's Olympic Plaza downtown when I stopped to ask him if I could take his portrait. He asked me if my accent was from the Midlands in the UK, I said it was and he told me he'd been brought up in Leicester and Norwich so he recognized it.
We chatted for about 20 minutes about everything from the state Canada's in at the moment to how things had changed since we were kids.
The vintage lens I used didn't render the portrait as good has I hoped but at least I had a great conversation and next time I see Chad around I'll take another one.
Believe me, beneath all these graffiti tags and mind-readers posters, there's a nice stainless steel bus stop.

I take this shot with my Canon 60D and the Canon 100mm/2.8 macro in the highspeed shuttermode.
The ISO was set to 640 and the shutterspeed was 3200. Instead of a flash I used a construction flood light behind the balloon.
To protect the camera from the water, and due to missing a underwater bag, I put into a freezer bag, with a hole for the lense. (see her)

The war that broke out between Russia and the Ukraine has touched the collective world soul a lot and so this year I wanted to give a message of solidarity by saying Stop the Wars! To do this I decided to create a nice diorama taking up the Star Wars theme of which I am a big fan.
For once the Empire and the Rebellion in a famous scene of Hoth (from the movie "The Empire Strikes Back") decide to make peace and sit down at a decorated table to celebrate Christmas! All weapons have been laid down, speeders and tools of war like the AT-ST have stopped, and everyone celebrates together.
Some peculiarities of the diorama are the spit-roast chicken that can rotate thanks to a side knob, R2-D2 and C1P8 in a Christmas version, a custom printed sign of "STOP WARS". A side housing also allows you to turn on small LED lights to illuminate some parts of the diorama.

Someone has spent a lot of time adding some Spice Girl lyrics to this 'Stop' sign in Bondi Junction, unfortunately they've got the first line wrong, it should be "Stop right now, thank you very much"...but hey, still a good effort. Wonder how long it will last? Fri 22 Jan
Another visit to the poppy field! This bright red screams stop and take my picture. The purple in the background is the same purple wildflower from previous visits.
I love the texture of these - almost like paper.
With the big storms of late and the odd Huracan thrown in for good measure , I feel we are in for a greening time .

Writing Spider (Argiope aurantia)
You don't see many spiders here because I'm SCARED of spiders! But I like writing spiders because they're pretty. 8-8-08
I see that my friends don't like spiders either! After about a day I may drop him down in my photostream - ha! And leave him for a future "spider" contest :-)
