The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and east across the Palearctic to the Amur River, south to parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters. Until 2005 this species was lumped with numerous other subspecies. DNA studies have shown these other subspecies to be distinctive from the great tit and these have now been separated as two distinct species, the cinereous tit of southern Asia, and the Japanese tit of East Asia. The great tit remains the most widespread species in the genus Parus.
The great tit is a distinctive bird with a black head and neck, prominent white cheeks, olive upperparts and yellow underparts, with some variation amongst the numerous subspecies. It is predominantly insectivorous in the summer, but will consume a wider range of food items in the winter months, including small hibernating bats.[2] Like all tits it is a cavity nester, usually nesting in a hole in a tree. The female lays around 12 eggs and incubates them alone, although both parents raise the chicks. In most years the pair will raise two broods. The nests may be raided by woodpeckers, squirrels and weasels and infested with fleas, and adults may be hunted by sparrowhawks. The great tit has adapted well to human changes in the environment and is a common and familiar bird in urban parks and gardens. The great tit is also an important study species in ornithology.
A guide stoop on Gibbet Moor, east of Chesterfield. Though Chesterfield is spelt:
CHESTE
RFEILD
ROAD
on the stoop!
The guide stoops were introduced after 1709 to guide travellers on their way between the towns and villages. Many routes in those days crossed bleak, desolate moorland.
The kites at the hill were fantastic today - can't quite believe how brazen they were! At one point I even had to shoot at 100mm on a 300mm lens (this shot was taken at 150mm with a bit of cropping)
Mostly I see buzzards circling up high or waiting for a meal on a lamp post opportunistically . It is a surprise then, when they enter into a fast stoop after spotting something below.
Took a break from the long straight stretch of highway as we were heading east into the sun ... this was the rear-view mirror view that I got out to take. Was planning to clone out the shadow, which I may do later, but for now kept my crouching pose there ;))
Europe, Netherlands, Rotterdam Zuid, Wolpaertsbocht, Poster, Man, Cars
While on my way, I encountered a man on the street and asked myself the 'GW-question' - "How will it look photographed?" More specific: "How will a stooped person on the street look photographed while the cam focuses on a poster (printed with a very coarse raster) some meters before him?"
This is the last pic exploring and showcasing the possibilities of the GX9 and some particular lenses. It's time for some hard boiled archi shots again - next stop: Utrecht Centraal.
This is a favorite place of mine to go to when visiting my daughter /friends...it's the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia........On the other side is Port Huron MI....
From Spring right up until the first snowfall it's populated by many tourists and locals.....the biggest attraction is the Chip Wagons, or the Fry Trucks....they do a booming business.......it's a beautiful spot year round! The locals walk their dogs along the boardwalk and there are lots of these signs posted..... :) There is also a Casino within walking distance!!

I hope that you have an AWEsome day/night!!!
THANKS so much in advance for your visits!! :)
walking home from the BK loves MichaelJ & Prince event at Fort Green Park, I notice some art next to this stoop. I asked this gent if he created the art, which he didn't--we engaged in a conversation, then I asked to take his photo.
MY Stranger 61/100
.
Stoop sitting. An important pastime during the summers in Newark. This was my grandmother's home. Oak trees out front. Sidewalk pavers jumbled from growing roots of trees. Typical Italians, with loads of fruit trees in the back yard. And grape vines, and home made wine.
I'm guessing this may be from around 1958, as my sister is wearing diapers. Far right is our mom, who would have been in her early 30s then. Far left is my dad's cousin, who would have been about age 14 judging by her looks here. I would be an usher at her wedding in about 8 years.
The post war years, with the soldiers and sailors home, trying to make something of the world they saved, for the families they were growing.
