Radio/television tower:

The transmission tower of WGTV can be seen at the summit. "WGTV is a PBS (Public Broadcasting System) member television station licensed to Athens, Georgia, United States, a legacy of the station's early years as a service of the University of Georgia. Owned by the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission (technically under the Georgia Board of Regents, along with the University System of Georgia), it is the flagship station of the statewide Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) television network, serving the Atlanta metropolitan area from a transmitter atop Stone Mountain just east of Atlanta."

👎 Rejection.

On 14 December 2023, an administrator for the Flickr group "Flickr Pearls ... No Insects ..... No Flowers " rejected this photo for...well, here's why, in their own words, grammar, and spelling:

"we were missing a clear subject.

If there is none and it s more atmospheric , the light needs to be better and clearer to transport a atmosphere or what ever, you wantedd t show. as well ts probably underexposed, as well the Trees in teh foreground have the same hue as the background, so all in all does not give the viewer too much Orientattion , and reason to look at it, plus slightly technical rpoblems.

It could easily be, that the sitaution could provide a much better pic in an oter daytome or tome of the year. "

Stone faces in my rock garden that were found in our pasture. I am always on the lookout for interesting rocks to add to my garden.

Some crystal stones from my collection :) I like to wear them as a pendant on the chain. Many people believe that crystals have an energy which can be used for for spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. Also for thousands of years, ancient civilizations were using them as talismans and amulets. On the photo you can see: Amethyst, Aventurine, Rose Quartz, Citrine and Tiger's Eye. These are my favourite lucky charms :)

This lovely old church apparently dates back to the 12th century.

One of a short series of images taken using the circle of ice found floating on top of our bird bath after a particularly freezing night

This is one of my first photos. Quite pleased with the light in this one.

I went to the roof because of the beautiful light. Noticed the little puddle of water on our chimney and decided to get a shot with the stone.

I believe this is a turtle or tortoise work at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida, USA.

Photographer's metadata: Anyone visiting central Florida for things such as Disneyworld should take a day off and visit this wonderful botanical garden. When we visited this location we were told not to miss the new children's area. So, it was the first place we headed. And, as we entered, I noticed this mosaic in the sidewalk right at the gate. After everyone had entered (we photographers dislike clogging up walkways), I took the time to get this shot of some great workmanship. Notice the various color in the different stones. After getting the photograph onto my computer, I realized that I could have achieved more shadow had I stood about 4 or 5 o'clock in this frame . . . oh, well!

I love visiting an area many times over as it affords the opportunity to always seek out new compositions. This image was captured just after sunset as twilight painted the sandstone world of White Pocket. The right side of the rock is bathed in a warm reflected light while the left side is picking up the blue cast of the sky above as it sits in a deeper shade.

Castlerigg stone circle in a glorious ring of mountains.

Stone Town, Zanzibar

This is the street where Freddie Mercury was born.

The surviving stones are sited on a promontory at the south bank of the stream that joins the southern ends of the sea loch Loch of Stenness and the freshwater Loch of Harray. The name, which is pronounced stane-is in Orcadian dialect, comes from Old Norse meaning stone headland. The stream is now bridged, but at one time was crossed by a stepping stone causeway, and the Ring of Brodgar lies about 1.2 km (0.75 mi) away to the north-west, across the stream and near the tip of the isthmus formed between the two lochs. Maeshowe chambered cairn is about 1.2 km (0.75 mi) to the east of the Standing Stones of Stenness and several other Neolithic monuments also lie in the vicinity, suggesting that this area had particular importance.

The Stenness Watch Stone stands outside the circle, next to the modern bridge leading to the Ring of Brodgar

Although the site today lacks the encircling ditch and bank, excavation has shown that this used to be a henge monument, possibly the oldest in the British Isles. The stones are thin slabs, approximately 300 mm (12 in) thick with sharply angled tops. Four, up to about 5 m (16 ft) high, were originally elements of a stone circle of up to 12 stones, laid out in an ellipse about 32 m (105 ft) diameter on a levelled platform of 44 m (144 ft) diameter surrounded by a ditch. The ditch is cut into rock by as much as 2 m (6.6 ft) and is 7 m (23 ft) wide, surrounded by an earth bank, with a single entrance causeway on the north side. The entrance faces towards the Neolithic Barnhouse Settlement which has been found adjacent to the Loch of Harray. The Watch Stone stands outside the circle to the north-west and is 5.6 m (18 ft) high. Once there were at least two stones there, as in the 1930s the stump of a second stone was found. Other smaller stones include a square stone setting in the centre of the circle platform where cremated bone, charcoal and pottery were found. This is referred to as a "hearth", similar to the one found at Barnhouse. Animal bones were found in the ditch. The pottery links the monument to Skara Brae and Maeshowe. Based on radiocarbon dating, it is thought that work on the site had begun by 3100 BC

This stone lantern is on Seven Fortune Gods Hill in Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Begun in the late 17th century, Kenrokuen was the private outer garden of the adjacent castle.

First attempt at putting a pano shot together!

Anyone visiting the Lake District should take a trip up to the stones, its very easy to get to and the view will take your breath away.

The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly in Europe.

An old stone building in the Southwest, close to the border of Mexico. I illuminated the scene with a handheld flashlight while the camera's shutter was open during this long exposure night photo. Relatum-Town of Encounter by Lee Ufan

Lee Ufan is a master of contemporary art who works mainly in Korea, Japan, and Europe. He was born in Haman, Southern Gyeongsang province, Korea and led the theory and practice of ‘Mono-na’ (School of Things), Asian equivalent of the West’s minimalism and the first contemporary art movement in the region.

Since the early 1970s, Lee has produced meditative painting series ‘From Point’ and ‘From Line’ as well as his signature sculpture series ‘Relatum’ using steel plates and stone.

This artwork was installed in November 1985 to commemorate the completion of The Korean Press Center, the new building for The Seoul Shinmun and Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation.

It is a rate masterpiece symbolizing the emergence of a new harmonious relation between heavy steel plates and native rock that bears the scar of long history.

‘Relatum’ series was exhibited at the Palace of Versailles, France in 2014 and is owned by Lee Ufan Museum in Naoshima, Japan and Space Le Ufan in Busan Museum of Art.

This week's FlickrFriday theme is Stone. I've already posted my submission for that, but I still like this backup image, with beautifully polished red granite grave elements at Sandgate Cemetery in Newcastle, Australia.
