I think this fence is known as a Russell Fence. I found this while exploring the backroads of Montana and came upon the ghost town named Pony.

Happy Fence Friday!

A rainy day in one of Italy’s oldest medieval villages. The buildings were dark and cold, and the atmosphere was heavy and quiet. Suddenly, for a moment, the sun broke through—setting the sky ablaze with violet and gold, while the village below remained shrouded in shadow.

Bathed in the warmth of the evening sun, this distinctive turreted house on Kirkhill, St Andrews, stands as a reminder that history is not confined to museums or monuments. Its weathered sandstone walls continue to serve everyday life, quietly preserving the craftsmanship and character that have shaped the town for generations. Here, time has not simply passed—it still lives within the stone.

I caught the sun shining through one of the windows in the lantern on the top floor of the little castle at Bolsover Castle and liked the starburst effect so I positioned myself to make it as large and as striking as possible.

The mine at Carn Galver operated on and off from the 1830s to 1878, transforming this quiet coastal moor into a bustling industrial zone. Visitors in the 1870s would have seen smoke billowing from the stack of the steam pumping house (the taller ruined building) which drained water from the mines’s deepest shafts, whilst the clanking winch of the adjacent engine house raised ore to the surface in huge buckets. Carts would then haul off the ore to the nearby Bosigran Stamps (which replaced the early 19th century stamps at Porthmoina Cove) for crushing, separating and roasting. The Count House where the mine manager lived, kept the accounts and entertained shareholders to lavish dinners, is now the Climbers Club.

St Martin's Church, Martindale is located in the valley of Martindale in Cumbria, England, UK

It is often referred to as the "Old Church" to avoid confusion with the nearby St Peter's Church which is situated half a mile down the valley. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. It is now only in occasional use. The church is a Grade II* listed building.

The date of the establishment of a place of worship on the site of St Martin's is unknown but it is mentioned in a de Lancaster Charter of 1220 and other references state that a chapel was already in existence at that date.

The present building was probably erected at the end of the 16th century, replacing the chapel, the last reference to which occurs in a document of 13 April 1541. In 1714 the church floor was flagged as the congregation were no longer prepared to endure the damp earth floor.

The tiny church bell which hangs in an open cote at the west end of the church is over 500 years old.

The churchyard contains an ancient Yew tree which is estimated to be 1300 years old, documents in the church state the men of Martindale, who were famous as bowmen, used the tree and others in the district to replenish their arms.

Looking down one of the historic streets of St Andrews, the eye is drawn towards North Point, the café where Prince William and Catherine spent time together during their years at the University of St Andrews. Surrounded by centuries-old stone buildings, this quiet corner reminds us that history is shaped not only by castles and monuments, but also by the ordinary places where extraordinary journeys begin.

A rainy day in Grassington, a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. The population of the parish at the 2011 Census was 1,126.[1] It is situated in Wharfedale, about 8 miles (10 km) north-west from Bolton Abbey, and is surrounded by limestone scenery. Nearby villages include Linton, Threshfield, Hebden, Conistone and Kilnsey.

Until 1974 it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the district of Craven, it is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council.

Grassington was used as the setting for the fictional town of Darrowby in the 2020 Channel 5 series All Creatures Great and Small, instead of Thirsk where the actual story took place; Thirsk had become too large for the small-town feel that the series wanted.

We had already walked around the commercial center of Bordeaux and we took a corner to see more things and waiting for the time to make a tourist route in Spanish in a kind of electric trolley.

Actually, this street did not seem anything special, rather ugly despite how wide and long it was, but in one of the corners I saw this huge tower that is one of the doors of the old city.

It is the Great Bell or door of San Eloy originally built on the walls of the thirteenth century and is the last vestige of the old defensive gate. It is the oldest door in Bordeaux still standing. The current clock was placed after the fire of the town hall in 1657.

Not that there was a large influx of visitors or tourists, but I liked it or maybe there was not much more to be photographed.

I take this opportunity to wish you all happy holidays and a better 2018.

Saint-Malo Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Vincent-de-Saragosse de Saint-Malo) is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located in Saint-Malo, Brittany, France. The church was founded in dedication to Saint Vincent of Saragossa and is a national monument of France. It was built in a mix of Roman and Gothic styles during the episcopacy of Jean de Châtillon (1146-1163) on the site of an ancient church founded in the 7th century. The cathedral suffered damage during World War II when the steeple toppled onto the Sacred Heart Chapel. An organ which had been built in 1893 by Louis Debierre was destroyed. On 21 May 1972, after 28 years of work, a ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the restoration. It is a stop on the Tro Breizh, a Catholic pilgrimage that links the towns of the seven founding saints of Brittany.

Ardvreck Castle is a castle, now ruinous, standing on a rocky promontory in Loch Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland, UK. The structure dates from about 1490 and is associated with the then landowners, the Macleods of Assynt.

Levant Mine and Beam Engine is a National Trust property at Trewellard, Pendeen, near St Just, Cornwall, England, UK. Its main attraction is that it has the world's only Cornish beam engine still operated by steam on its original site. There is also a visitor centre, a short underground tour, and the South West Coast Path leads to Botallack Mine, via a cliff-top footpath.

In 1919 the engine used to transport men between the different levels of the mine failed, leading to the deaths of thirty-one men. Since 2006, the area has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

The property is on the site of the former Levant Mine, established in 1820 and closed in 1930, where tin and copper ores were raised. The mine reached a depth of about 600 metres. It got the nickname "mine under the sea", because tunnels were driven up to 2.5 km from the cliffs under the sea. The surviving beam engine was built c. 1840 by Harvey's of Hayle.

Old Gang Smelting Mill is one of best preserved lead mining complexes in the Pennines. Constructed in the 1840s, it replaced an earlier mill on the site. After 1885 production declined dramatically.

The Old Gang mill was one of the largest in the area, the mill is shewn on the first edition of the O.S. 1/10560 sheet for the area, which was surveyed in 1854.

The mill smelted in small way until at least October 1899, and possibly until 1903. By 1913,

The mill was named after the nearby Old Gang beck, and is surprisingly well-preserved - the chimney is still completely intact. Rusting machinery can still be seen.
