Fort Stevens (Oregon)

Visited Fort Stevens State Park on a very rainy day.

Wiki -"Fort Stevens was an American military installation that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River in the state of Oregon. Built near the end of the American Civil War, it was named for slain Civil War general and former Washington Territory governor, Isaac Stevens. The fort was an active military reservation from 1863–1947.[1] The fort is listed on the National Register of Historic Places." Was also upgraded and used during the second world war, decommissioned in 1947.

Meet Steven, is 7/100 in the second round of my 100 strangers project.

Not sure why I was out at dusk with the flash on a perfectly good summers evening, if I hadn't bothered cutting the grass I could have been out in some lovely golden hour light earlier on!

I spotted Steven walking towards me in the street. Maybe common sense should have stopped be but I couldnt help myself "How did you get that black eye?" was my opening line. Steven stopped and smiled, "I got it for winning a poker game" was the response.

He had recently won £400 in a poker game, the black eye was not because he had won but because he was being cheeky to the other players after he won.

"It got me through to the next round of the tournament anyway" he said.

Having been prevented form playing poker for a number of years due to his ex he is now back playing. Although not a professional gambler, he does wonder if he should be (although I maybe wouldnt recommend it based on this black eye!)

Steven also used to do a bit of DJ'ing and has travelled extensively doing it.

I did comment on my last stranger pic that I was going to try and avoid head shots with plain backgrounds, trying to get a bit of variety. Looks like I failed again!

If you look in Steven it was a pleasure to meet you.

Hanging with my buddy Steven on a recent trip to El Mirage dry lake outside of LA. Excellent location, but way too windy to do anything without wire supports for the octabox.

Steven had just finished the color run in San Diego where he was blitzed with a different colored powder at each kilometer. By the time the yellow, orange, pink and blue are applied it all turns brown. I shot Steven in b&w just to be different. The event raised money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. Many of the "little brothers" applied color to the passing runners.

This small and out-dated bathroom needed a face lift. The corner shower unit was too small and leaked. We proposed a custom shower that would maximize the existing space. The fixtures and flooring were removed. A half wall was constructed for esthetics and to offer some privacy. The custom shower with the glass surround now adds form and function. A coordinating tile was chosen for the floor and painted wood baseboard for the trim. The walls were painted, a new replacement window was added, and a new vanity and toilet were installed. Although the shower area grew substantially, the bathroom feels bigger. The half wall helps to define the shower space and the monochromatic color scheme pulls it all together.
