This painting, also known as Confidence, is one of several by Stevens (Belgian, Blandford Forum, England, 1823 - London, 1906) to treat the theme of consolation. As in his other works from the 1870s, here the anecdotal content of a letter containing distressing news asserts itself in a glimpse of the life of fashionable Parisian women in their elegant interiors. Stevens's subject matter and his meticulous attention to contemporary dress and decor elicited analogies to seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish art; in fact, one critic called him the Gerard ter Borch of France.

Boyd Stevens is the proprietor of Stevens Hardware in the hamlet of Orion, Alberta, population about a dozen people... He has spent much of his life inside this store and in Orion... His father also operated the store and passed it onto him...

I met him once before back in 2011, my previous visit to Orion... I had a good long chat with him this time, a friendly man full of stories from back when Orion and this whole region had much higher population...

This past Monday I had the honor of volunteering my time and photographing the 2018 Steven Rucker Memorial Golf Tournament. Engineer Rucker was killed in the line of duty while part of a Wildfire Strike Team fighting the Cedar Fire near San Diego on October 29th, 2003. The crew he was assigned to was providing structure protection and were assigned to protect a house in the fire zone. Shortly after arriving at the house, the fire made a half mile run in less than two minutes directly at the four-man crew. Two were able to escape injury by taking shelter inside of the house, while the Captain received critical burn injuries and Engineer Rucker received fatal burns. Engineer Steven Rucker left behind a wife and two young children.

This was the fifteenth annual tournament and my second time at photographing it. I think that it will be on my calendar every year from here on out.

I used two SB24 with softboxes as an experiment, but I do quite like what came out, the light IS different... One strobe to the right on the same level as the rider, one strobe on the left side above the rider as main light source.

American postcard by Kline Poster Co. Inc., Phila.

Edwin Stevens (1860-1923) was an American stage and film actor. He also directed several films during the silent era.

He started in the theatre in 1896, worked in about twenty plays, acted in 45 films between 1916 and 1923, and directed seven between 1916 and 1917.

Edwin Stevens was born in San Francisco, California, in 1860. He started in the theatre around 1896. He was the lead singer of the Tivoli Stock Company and performed in several light operas and musicals on the Broadway circuit. His Broadway debut came with 'The Geisha', an 1896 musical comedy directed by Augustin Daly. 'The Geisha' would be performed again in 1913, this time under the direction of Edwin T. Emery, and Stevens played the same character, Marquis Imari. From then on he acted in almost 20 plays, until 1917 when he played in 'Kitty Darlin'. Throughout his theatrical career, he was able to work alongside stars such as Ethel Barrymore and Isadora Duncan. In the 1908 play 'The Devil', he played the title role, playing opposite the actress Theda Bara, who was then using the stage name Theodosia de Coppet.

Edwin Stevens's first film was The Man Inside (John G. Adolfi, J.S. Schrock, 1916), produced by Universal Studios. In the same year, she wrote, directed, and acted in the Independent Moving Pictures Company film The Capital Prize. Also in 1916, he starred in the xenophobic serial The Yellow Menace (Aubrey M. Kennedy, 1916), opposite Florence Malone and Marguerite Gale. The serial was produced by Serial Film Corporation and was announced as "Hindus, Arabs, Turks, Chinese, Malays, Japanese Etc., can be seen in the new serial by Louis Tracy, featuring Edwin Stevens and a cast of 6,000 people in "THE YELLOW MENACE" The terrific arraignment of an unprepared America". Of the seven films Stevens directed between 1916 and 1917, six were made for Universal. He last appeared in front of the camera in A Lover's Oath (Ferdinand P. Earle, 1925), starring Ramon Novarro. The film was released posthumously two years after his death. Edwin Stevens died in 1923 at his home in Los Angeles, California, of pneumonia. He was 62. Till his death, he was married to Louise Weller. They had two children.

Ella is one!!!!

my good buddy steven. we had a photo sesh experiment last night and we tried anything we could think of. it was a good experiment and fun to try a lot of different stuff. however, i have edited a few pictures that we really liked and before i could upload them my computer failed me. it is currently sitting at his house in hopes that it can be fixed. for if it does not start back up again i have lost it all. everything i have ever written, every document, every file, all of my music and most importantly every picture. i feel like carrie bradshaw in that episode of sex and the city where her computer crashes and she has lost all of her columns she has ever written. i should have learned from her to back everything up. but i didn't. my heart hurts. pray for me! i will keep you posted.

let me know what you think!

also, listen to his music at www.myspace.com/linden

(same band as the girls i just previously shot, Kara and Casi :))

JOIN ME!!!

What I'm talking about is a project the likes of which I've never attempted before.

A photography project that encapsulates everything I've learned, these past few years. Everything I know about working with and shooting people.

A trip across country to investigate couples, photograph and interview them, figure out how they do that voodoo they do so well.

Capture that on camera. Put it all in a book.

To do this, I've started me a Kickstarter project. And I'd like your assistance. Take a look, do what you can, it's all very much appreciated!
