Taken by my father. He decided to get a close shot of a black bear checking out a trash can in the Smokey Mountains. The bear decided he didn't like how close my father was. No bears or fathers were injured in the making of these pictures.

Stephen Colbert received a frangible nut from the crew of STS-135. But it does not appear to be from the actual STS-135 mission - the frangible nut design was changed in 2008, to accommodate a pyrotechnic link between the two explosive charges which fracture the nut. www.nasa.gov/centers/marshall/pdf/290339main_8-388221J.pdf

Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear Washington D.C. 10-30-2010

The event was held in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on the east end of the National Mall in Washington D.C. and drew approximately 215,000 thousand people. The Rally application for a permit to the National Park Service listed they hoped for an attendance at the combined event of about 25,000 people. News reports claim this rally was a satirical response to Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally and Al Sharpton's Reclaim the Dream rally.

Jon Stewart announced the "Rally to Restore Sanity" on the September 16, 2010 of The Daily Show, Stephen Colbert announced the "March to Keep Fear Alive" on the The Colbert Report the same day.

Oprah Winfrey appeared on The Daily Show and gave the attending audience all free airline tickets to the rally. Stephen Colbert gave his audience gusts free Chinatown bus tickets to the rally.

A bear covered in porcupine quills. Ouch.

When film and theater director Julie Taymor came to the third annual Montclair Film Festival in Montclair, New Jersey, it only made sense to get Montclair's most famous resident to interview her. But since Jonathan Alter wasn't available, they settled for Stephen Colbert, another famous Montclair resident, instead. :-D

The interview was held in the auditorium at the Montclair Kimberly Academy, a private school. Of course it was sold out.

Tens of thousands, or perhaps more, flocked to Washington today to witness the highly-anticipated “Rally To Restore Sanity.” Many brought signs, some wore costumes, and thanks to sunny weather and an atmosphere filled with energy, most probably had a good time.
