Captured during the Siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s, this haunting image of Zetra Stadium’s interior tells a story of resilience amid destruction. Once a celebrated venue for the 1984 Winter Olympics, this space was transformed by the war into a makeshift refuge for displaced civilians and a storage area for humanitarian aid. In this photograph, shafts of sunlight filter through the gaping holes in the partially collapsed roof, illuminating the battered scoreboard that still bears the Olympic rings—a stark reminder of a time when Sarajevo was celebrated on the world stage.

The photograph captures not only the physical scars of conflict but also the resilience of the human spirit. The structure’s steel beams remain, though bent and broken, while the scoreboard, still proudly displaying the Olympic insignia, serves as a symbol of both defiance and remembrance. The white dome in the foreground hints at temporary structures that were brought in to support the humanitarian operations that unfolded under the constant threat of shelling.

This image is a powerful testament to warchitecture—the ways in which architecture becomes entangled in the realities of conflict. Zetra Stadium, once a place of athletic triumph and international unity, was transformed into a shelter for the vulnerable and a hub of logistical support during the darkest days of the siege.

Zetra’s transformation highlights the adaptability of human-made spaces in times of crisis. The survival of this scoreboard—its Olympic emblem weathered but still visible—speaks to the endurance of both structure and spirit in the face of relentless violence. Today, Zetra Stadium stands as a poignant reminder of Sarajevo’s Olympic legacy, the horrors of war, and the unyielding strength of its people.

The Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge's importance was severely reduced in 1960. Later, on May 8, 1974, the Railroad Bridge suffered a wooden-tie fire that damaged about 700 feet of the bridge decking. As years passed The Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge Company, Inc., was delighted to turn this wonder of Hudson Valley History into a pedestrian and cyclist walkway. As of September 5, 2009, conversion work and repairs to structural steel and the laying of concrete slabs for the walkway were completed. The volunteer head of the "Walkway", as it is known locally, said in 2008, "We think people will come from all over [to enjoy its magnificence]"

There are many river cruises in Singapore, and it is something very popular for tourists. Here is an empty river cruise boat on the water, just next to a bridge on the water. In the background, just beyond the bridge is an overhead lighting support, meant for the Formula One race that is held in the night, and in behind those are the high rise buildings along with cranes. The sky has a large number of white clouds.

The river cruises in Singapore are very popular and there are a number of tourist operators providing this service. Every resort or hotel has a tie-up for the same, and this is the office of the same service provided by the Marina Bay Sands hotel in the Marina reservoir.

This construction, on the end side of the Toronto Central Business District has an interesting story to it. The building is a new building for Downtown Porsche, which is in a new building across the street. The first building was constructed on the site of Ontario's original Parliament building, and the government was unable to stop construction on what was considered to be a 'heritage' site. The dealership opened about five or six years ago, and after several years of negotiation, the City did a land swap, and is, as I understand it, paying for the new building through the purchase of the old site.

2 March: On my way to work ....mmm ... I don't work on a Sunday, but I didn't let that stop me from getting my photo-a-day. The weather was dreadful and no let up in the rain so I braved the elements and headed out to take photos of landmarks that I pass on my way to work.

Bottom right: Fighting Stags - a steel structure recently placed outside the hospital where I work. It is of two stags fighting, which symbolises a struggle through adversity and the need to meet problems head on.
